  • Many better podcasts on Health

Poor interview skills and comes across as ignorant during podcast. Responce constantly “mmm huh yeah” “yeah I agree” “mmm uh nice” Has nothing to add to the overall experience. Many other shows with more interesting and nuanced content.

  • Very good podcasts. Especially before he started bringing his wife on. It slows the podcast down, and she contributes very little, beyond "hmm, "mmm," and occasional bits of info that he could do himself much more efficiently.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#512 Why Smart and Disciplined People Still Can't Stop Overeating - Charles Duhigg
Q: What are some of the interesting things you've researched about GLP-1s and habit formation?
GLP-1s tend to quiet the 'food noise' in the brain, disrupting cues and dampening rewards, which creates a window to form new, healthier habits that can persist after discontinuation; the technology also helps explain why cravings for other addictions may diminish and how biology and psychology together shape weight management.
#510 Q&A: Best Time to Eat Protein, Carbs, and Fats; HRV Improvement When Already Healthy; At What Age Does Your Body Start Declining
Q: What are your thoughts on unlimited animal products if balanced with glycine/collagen?
Balance methionine from muscle meat with glycine from collagen to support longevity-related amino acid balance. Glycine tends to be more impactful for maintaining healthspan, and excessive methionine without glycine balance can be suboptimal; ensure enough fiber to support gut health and reduce potential kidney stress from high protein intake.
#510 Q&A: Best Time to Eat Protein, Carbs, and Fats; HRV Improvement When Already Healthy; At What Age Does Your Body Start Declining
Q: At what age does the body start to decline, and how does lifestyle affect this?
Decline begins variably by individual, but fitness and health habits can delay or accelerate aging markers. VO2 max peaks in the late teens and declines with age, and muscle strength typically peaks in the early 30s; health status, activity levels, and genetics influence the pace of decline, with healthier individuals often experiencing a postponed and slower aging trajectory.
#510 Q&A: Best Time to Eat Protein, Carbs, and Fats; HRV Improvement When Already Healthy; At What Age Does Your Body Start Declining
Q: What is the most optimal way to distribute protein, fats, and carbs on rest days?
Overall calories and total macro balance drive outcomes, but a practical approach is to front-load protein and fats earlier in the day with lower carbs, then place more carbs around workouts to optimize glycogen replenishment and muscle protein synthesis, while keeping fats lower post-workout for faster recovery.
#510 Q&A: Best Time to Eat Protein, Carbs, and Fats; HRV Improvement When Already Healthy; At What Age Does Your Body Start Declining
Q: First question, how to improve your resting heart rate and HRV if you're already relatively healthy, and normal BMI and already exercising.
Focus on cardiovascular fitness and stress management: engage in regular zone two cardio or HIIT to improve autonomic balance, incorporate some resistance training for overall fitness, and consider consistent walking and daytime activity to boost circulation and HRV. Also adjust meal timing and fasting to avoid autonomic stressers, and use recovery modalities like sauna or contrast therapy judiciously to support HRV without affecting sleep.
