  • Many better podcasts on Health

Poor interview skills and comes across as ignorant during podcast. Responce constantly “mmm huh yeah” “yeah I agree” “mmm uh nice” Has nothing to add to the overall experience. Many other shows with more interesting and nuanced content.

  • Very good podcasts. Especially before he started bringing his wife on. It slows the podcast down, and she contributes very little, beyond "hmm, "mmm," and occasional bits of info that he could do himself much more efficiently.

#500 After 25 Years of Brain Scans, Here’s What Separates High Performers - Dr. Andrew Hill
Q: What can individuals do first to begin improving executive function and focus?
Begin with foundational practices like sleep optimization and meditation to strengthen the left stabilizer and the executive network, then consider neurofeedback or targeted behavioral tactics (e.g., Pomodoro, focused attention exercises). Medications or supplements may help some, but lasting change often comes from building foundational regulation through consistent practice and brain training.
#500 After 25 Years of Brain Scans, Here’s What Separates High Performers - Dr. Andrew Hill
Q: How do you compare self-perception of brain function with what brain scans show?
Most people have a good sense of their own patterns and, in many cases, brain maps align with their lived experience. About 90% feel the mapping confirms what they know about themselves, though diagnoses can sometimes point in a different direction than the brain data, highlighting that perception and neurobiology can diverge and both need to be understood to optimize functioning.
#500 After 25 Years of Brain Scans, Here’s What Separates High Performers - Dr. Andrew Hill
Q: What's the most common phenotype you see across people, and how does it affect everyday function?
The two most common phenotypes are left mid-central gyrus (stabilizer of executive function and sleep) and front midline (anterior cingulate, a key focus regulator). Dysregulation in these areas can lead to sleep problems or attentional challenges, but brain maps show these traits as resources to optimize rather than fixed diagnoses, and they can be improved with neurofeedback and behavioral strategies.
#498 Lifestyle Adds 5 Years To Your Life, But This Determines the Rest (Physicist Explains) - Dr Uri Alon
Q: How big of a role does lifestyle actually play in aging and longevity?
Lifestyle matters significantly for the average lifespan, particularly for those with less favorable genetics; however, it has limited impact on maximal lifespan, which is more strongly constrained by fundamental aging processes.
#498 Lifestyle Adds 5 Years To Your Life, But This Determines the Rest (Physicist Explains) - Dr Uri Alon
Q: So what did you find when you looked at your data and the newer twin studies?
We found that heritability of lifespan, after accounting for extrinsic deaths, is around 50% or a bit more, which means genetics plays a larger role than some textbook figures suggested, though lifestyle still matters a lot for average lifespan.
