  • This podcast used to be decent but lately he has a parade of whack jobs pimping their "alternative medicine" - not evidence based at all.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

716: Sleep Doctor: If You Wake Up at 3AM, Do Not Make This Mistake (What Actually Works) | Dr. Michael Breus
Q: What is the dominant approach to helping people fall back asleep when they wake up in the night?
Establish a consistent wake-up time, avoid clock-watching, use calming breathing techniques (such as 4-7-8), and apply a distraction method to lower anxiety and heart rate, followed by optional rest in a relaxed position.
711: The Biggest Lies You’ve Been Told About Diet That Cause Brain Disease (Eat This) | Dr. Georgia Ede
Q: Why is what we're going to talk about today different?
Dr. Ede explains that many mental health symptoms are linked to nutrition and brain metabolism, which are not typically addressed in standard psychiatric visits. By focusing on lowering glucose and insulin, increasing ketone availability, and aligning lifestyle—diet, fasting, exercise—patients can improve brain energy and mood with a more natural, physiology-driven approach.
707: Melatonin Is More Powerful Than You Think — It's Not Just for Sleep | Dr. Deanna Minich
Q: What about light and darkness impact on gut and skin melatonin compared to pineal melatonin?
Skin and gut melatonin can respond to local light signals and environmental cues, but pineal melatonin remains the primary signal for circadian synchronization; the gut has local roles and liquid-phase signaling, whereas skin melatonin is largely local as well.
707: Melatonin Is More Powerful Than You Think — It's Not Just for Sleep | Dr. Deanna Minich
Q: You've made it clear that melatonin is found throughout the body, primarily made in the pineal gland and the stomach. How much of that melatonin moves around the body and engages from those two primary sites to the rest of the body?
Pineal melatonin circulates systemically and helps synchronize clocks, while gut-derived melatonin has a more local effect with less systemic travel; there is overlap, but the pineal source predominantly coordinates signals across tissues.
709: Vascular Surgeon: What Really Causes Clogged Arteries | Dr. Lily Johnston
Q: When do you start lipid-lowering therapy in patients with plaque but no events?
In the gray zone, consider lipid-lowering therapy especially if there is plaque and high-risk features; prioritize managing insulin resistance, blood pressure, and visceral fat alongside lipid issues.
