Excuses genocide
I was really enjoying the show and then found out Mayim is a Zionist. She has posted so much about Oct 7 and antisemitism and Israeli soldiers who have passed. Not a single post about the active genocide and ethnic cleansing that the Israeli govt is committing against Palestinian people. I have empathy for her because I know she has been indoctrinated… but I can’t condone this and I can’t keep listening.

My only feedback is that when Mayam specifically asked how we as a society can help, Shaka shared so many incredible books, movies, and resources, but none of them were linked or listed in the episode breakdown. For those of us listening while driving or walking, it’s hard to stop and take notes, and now I’m having to go back through the episode to find everything again. The letter challenged my beliefs by showing that forgiveness is not about absolving others but about freeing myself from the weight of what happened. It was a test of my consistency with my own principles, and it pushed me to see the shooter as another human being whose actions were a result of his own traumas, not just an enemy to be blamed.

Solitary forced me to confront the parts of myself I would otherwise dodge. The structure and scarcity created a space where I had to face fears, memories, and the truth about my own accountability. It gave me a framework for doing the hard emotional labor later, when I could apply tools like journaling, mindfulness, and deliberate practice to heal and reframe my life.
