  • Help for your back pain!

The Back in Shape program folks know their stuff! After decades of a sore lower back and all kinds of treatments, stretching, and exercise programs, I stumbled on this work. I’m 3 months into the program and can’t recommend it enough. I’ve gone from having sciatic pain so bad I couldn’t stand up to resuming my daily activities and building muscle to protect my back. Thank you BIS! Your premiere BIS program is giving me back my active life.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is It Safe to Squat and Deadlift With a Herniated Disc?
Q: Shay says, should we increase the load first and then later range of motion?
The guidance given emphasizes increasing the load first to build capacity, up to around 45% of body weight, before focusing on range of motion, because loading tends to drive improvements in mobility and strength.
Why Your L4-L5 Herniated Disc Isn't Healing (The 5 Traps)
Q: How do you know if mobility work is helping versus causing more irritation?
By prioritizing mobility that is functional and coupled with strength work, using gradual load increases, and focusing on hip, knee, and ankle mobility first before stressing the spine.
Stop Stretching Your Disc Bulge: Why Your Back Keeps Flaring Up
Q: What is driving my flare-ups if it's not just the disc itself?
Flare-ups are driven by movement through injured spinal segments without proper control; rehab should restore stability and coordinated loading across the spine, not just target the site of pain.
Why You Can't "Pop" A Slipped Disc Back Into Place
Q: Brian asked about swimming; is it a strengthening exercise for the back?
Swimming is not a strengthening exercise for the spine because it does not load the spine; it can play a relief role and aid conditioning, but it should be understood as not replacing loading-based strengthening.
Why You Can't "Pop" A Slipped Disc Back Into Place
Q: Can we pop into Premium for a month and then back out into Core?
The program offers Core and Premium memberships; Premium provides additional support and access, but you can switch between tiers depending on space and needs.
