  • Very informative even for someone who isn’t a coach or PT

I love that the episodes are less than 30 minutes and are packed with useful information. I’m not a coach or PT professional but just a person who lifts while working through a shoulder injury. Lifting weights and using resistance training, first through the coaching of a personal trainer and now on my own, has helped me address and alleviate the pain of a shoulder injury and medical implant in my arm. The deadlift and all its variations are my absolute favorite. Thank you for making this inform... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bones & Osteoporosis with Dr. Belinda Beck | Ep 55
Q: What is the role of medication in managing osteoporosis relative to exercise?
Medications should be part of a combined approach when appropriate, but exercise offers unique benefits and fewer non-responders; often the best outcomes come from integrating both, with exercise as a foundational therapy and medications added when indicated and tolerated.
Bones & Osteoporosis with Dr. Belinda Beck | Ep 55
Q: Is there an age where bone adaptation stops being possible, or can older adults still benefit from loading?
Older adults can still adapt to loading; bone cells respond to mechanical deformation regardless of age, and dose–response data indicate that even the oldest participants can show meaningful improvements, though weight and complexity of loading should be carefully managed.
Bones & Osteoporosis with Dr. Belinda Beck | Ep 55
Q: How should loading be progressed for someone with osteoporosis to minimize risk?
Progressive loading should aim for high-intensity resistance with controlled, gradual increases, keeping technique perfect and ensuring supervision; avoid rapid, high-velocity loading in advanced cases, and tailor the dose to individual capacity, typically around 80-85% of max lift for those progressing.
Bones & Osteoporosis with Dr. Belinda Beck | Ep 55
Q: What were the core findings of Liftmore regarding bone mineral density at the spine and hip?
Liftmore increased spinal BMD significantly, with the majority improving, and while hip BMD didn't rise dramatically in terms of density, the hip's structural geometry improved (femoral neck widened and cortex thickened), suggesting enhanced strength and lower fracture risk.
Stop Overcomplicating Training: What Actually Matters with Dr. Josh Davis | Ep 54
Q: Do most people need the barbell, or can they start with other tools?
It's not an absolute must; barbells help for heavy lifting, but for many, dumbbells, kettlebells, or bodyweight variations are sufficient and effective.
