  • Where’s Dotsie?

Dotsie and Alexandra have - from the beginning- held my attention. I’ve appreciated the mix of conversations that include animal welfare and environmental /climate change concerns in addition to the plethora of superb nutritional information from experts and medical professionals. I am missing Dotsie lately - her and Alexandra’s rapport makes this show skip, pump and flow. 5 stars up through December, ‘24!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

354 - Ex-Rancher's Wife Who Bought Her Husband's Cows to Save Them
Q: Did your husband struggle with letting go of his identity as a cattle rancher, and how did you navigate that transition together?
He wrestled with identity and tradition, but through persistence, shared education, and his own heart-health concerns, he gradually embraced veganism and became a co-founder of Rowdy Girl's movement.
353 - Javant Benton on the 4 Pillars That Reversed His Diabetes, Hypertension and Cancer Risk
Q: Why lentils over beans, and how do you explain their benefits to listeners?
Lentils offer more protein and iron per serving, with slightly lower calories and easier digestibility due to thinner outer skins. They also provide a strong nutrient profile and, when paired with other components, help stabilize blood sugar through their resistant starch and fiber.
353 - Javant Benton on the 4 Pillars That Reversed His Diabetes, Hypertension and Cancer Risk
Q: What led you to focus on plant-based eating after your health scare?
I explored many dietary approaches, but the evidence and personal experimentation pointed me toward plant-based foods. I stopped chasing labels and focused on what made my body feel best, using lentils and other minimally processed plant foods to meet protein and nutrient needs while avoiding ultra-processed ingredients.
347 - Why Fiber Matters More Than Protein | Dr. Sharon McDowell-Larsen & Dr. Regan Stiegmann
Q: What are your thoughts on protein needs and the role of supplements for athletes?
Protein needs should be viewed in the context of total diet and exercise; plant-based patterns can meet protein requirements when calories are adequate, and supplements should fill only specific gaps, not replace whole-food sources.
347 - Why Fiber Matters More Than Protein | Dr. Sharon McDowell-Larsen & Dr. Regan Stiegmann
Q: How is it that increasing fiber intake solves the selenium issue?
Addressing fiber intake first can improve nutrient status overall; fiber-rich, real foods can reduce the need for isolated supplements by supporting gut health and nutrient absorption, so meeting daily fiber targets may lessen perceived deficiencies.
