  • Very informative

I learn so much from every podcast. It’s unfortunate that women have not had access to treatment for so many years. My only negative is that I find the profanity Dr. Haver uses to be very off-putting and unprofessional.

  • Unfortunate for women that she’s is the poster child for perimenopause

Dr. Mary Claire Haver should really take note from the naturopath doctors who have MANY more years of experience than she does with peri/menopause care and BHRT. She’s like an infant in this space, yet she’s become the poster child for it — it’s all gone to her head and she has a lot of blind spots. She touts individualized care but doesn’t walk her talk. Instead she paints a broad stroke: slap a patch on and pop that OMP every night before bed. That’s not individualized care, that’s cookie cutt... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Menopause Masterclass: HRT Safety, Patch Absorption, Progesterone Intolerance, and Bone Density
Q: Are you a real doctor?
Yes, Dr. Haver confirms she is an MD, trained at LSU Medical Center with residency at UTMB, and licensed to practice in Texas and Colorado.
Mast Cells, Histamine, and Perimenopause Explained: MCAS, Anxiety, Estrogen
Q: What should patients do if they suspect MCAS or histamine-related symptoms during menopause?
Patients should document symptoms, triggers, and cycles, then consult a physician to review possible MCAS testing and treatment options, rather than self-diagnosing or over-relying on online information.
Mast Cells, Histamine, and Perimenopause Explained: MCAS, Anxiety, Estrogen
Q: What about using antihistamines or other medications targeting H1 and H2 receptors?
H1 and H2 blockers are commonly used and may help some patients when combined, but there is limited solid randomized trial evidence for their effectiveness in PMDD, endometriosis, or MCAS; doctors emphasize individualized dosing, monitoring for interactions, and tapering when stopping therapy.
Mast Cells, Histamine, and Perimenopause Explained: MCAS, Anxiety, Estrogen
Q: How do hormones like estrogen and progesterone influence mast cells?
Estrogen can activate mast cells and increase histamine release, while progesterone tends to dampen activation. Fluctuations across the menstrual cycle and during perimenopause can thus amplify or dampen symptoms.
Mast Cells, Histamine, and Perimenopause Explained: MCAS, Anxiety, Estrogen
Q: What is MCAS, and how is it diagnosed?
MCAS stands for Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, a condition with recurrent multi-system symptoms. Diagnosis relies on clinical criteria, including two or more organ systems affected, supportive lab data such as triptase levels taken during symptoms, and sometimes urinary markers like PGD2 or leukotriene E4, though tests can be imperfect and often require repeated measurements.
