  • Estrogen

I loved the postcast with Dr. Felice Gersh! I learned so much and really liked the way she explained the difference in estrogens. The bit about bio identical vs. human identical hormone replacement therapy was helpful! I hope you have her on again and cover progesterone and testosterone.

  • Loved the history of women and muscle 💪💛💪

Dr Stephanie is one of my favorite health, science podcasts. But this latest episode was really special. I listened while out on my walk after lifting heavy at home - I loved it! My aha, was that as a gen-x’r we’ve really been done dirty. It’s not about being small or skinny it’s about how strong we are and feel.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"You Have 5 Years Left." She Proved Them Wrong - Twice! with Leslie Kenny
Q: Let's talk a little bit about Spermademe. What is this compound, how do we get it in our diet, and is it really present in breast milk or seeds?
Spermidine is produced in multiple bodily sources from tissues and gut microbiome; it also comes from plants and foods like seeds, wheat germ, legumes, mushrooms, and aged cheeses. It helps with autophagy, immune function, and reversing several aging hallmarks, and it can be consumed through diet or plant-derived supplements. The emphasis is on plant-based spermidine due to safety and efficacy concerns around synthetic forms.
Feeling Stuck on Antidepressants in Midlife? How to Taper Off Safely with Mark Horowitz, PhD
Q: How does hyperbolic tapering work and why is it recommended?
Hyperbolic tapering reduces the dose in progressively smaller steps, especially at low doses, to avoid steep changes that trigger intense withdrawal symptoms and improve the likelihood of successful discontinuation.
Feeling Stuck on Antidepressants in Midlife? How to Taper Off Safely with Mark Horowitz, PhD
Q: What is the difference between addiction and dependence in the context of antidepressants?
Addiction involves craving, compulsive use, and harm, while dependence is a physiological adaptation where the brain adjusts to sustained drug exposure and withdrawal can occur upon cessation.
Feeling Stuck on Antidepressants in Midlife? How to Taper Off Safely with Mark Horowitz, PhD
Q: What are the physiological impacts of antidepressants on the body over the long term?
Antidepressants can cause weight changes, sexual dysfunction, cognitive effects, sleep disruption, gut issues, and emotional numbing; long-term use may lead to physical dependence rather than a true chemical deficiency.
Your Peptide Guide: BPC-157, GHK-Copper, GLP-1s & Body Composition with Kyal Van Der Leest
Q: How should listeners think about GLP-1s in the context of menopause and body composition?
GLP-1s can help with appetite suppression and weight loss but may slow gut motility, risking gut dysbiosis if used aggressively. A conservative, microdosed approach is often preferable, paired with strength training, nutrition, and attention to detoxification and gut health to minimize adverse effects and sustain long-term progress.
