  • Great Info

Episode 627. One thing that is a bit overdone in a lot of these podcasts-complaining about the system. I’m 21:00 minutes in and I just want you and your host to get to the subject matter. We all (most anyway) know the pitfalls of the system. Rehashing every episode is unnecessary. I do hope this helps. 😊

Great content if you can get through the ads. Way too much of the podcast is ads, ads, ads.

Ep. 633 The Midlife Metabolic Health Masterclass for Women | Menopause, Perimenopause, Metabolic Health
Q: How does estrogen influence fat distribution and metabolic health in midlife women, particularly in relation to insulin sensitivity?
Estrogen buffers fat storage in subcutaneous depots and supports a higher metabolic rate in fat tissue; loss of estrogen during menopause shifts fat storage centrally and can reduce metabolic flexibility, contributing to insulin resistance.
Ep. 634 Heart Disease Risk, Lipids, and Imaging |Menopause, Perimenopause, Heart Health
Q: Steph asks about statin use with an LDL of 144 and a low calcium score, considering GLP-1 therapy.
She suggests checking APOB and Lp(a), considering ASCVD risk with a 10-year score, and using Boston Heart lipid balance testing to guide therapy; GLP-1s can help but are not a direct substitute for statins, and the final choice should be personalized.
Ep. 634 Heart Disease Risk, Lipids, and Imaging |Menopause, Perimenopause, Heart Health
Q: Jamie asks about testing and supplements for palpitations in perimenopause and a family history of heart disease.
Cynthia outlines a baseline workup including ApoB, Lp(a), high-sensitivity CRP, homocysteine, fasting insulin, A1C, and a CAC score, and emphasizes evaluating soft, non-calcified plaque and the potential benefit of an echocardiogram and Holter monitoring depending on symptoms.
BONUS: Preserving Muscle During Weight Loss with Angelo Keely | Menopause, Perimenopause, Muscle Health
Q: Which supplement should a midlife woman consider first if budget is limited?
If focusing on body composition, essential amino acids offer the strongest impact; creatine and omega-3s provide other benefits like energy and inflammation reduction, but aminos directly support muscle preservation during dieting.
BONUS: Preserving Muscle During Weight Loss with Angelo Keely | Menopause, Perimenopause, Muscle Health
Q: What dosing approach do you recommend for midlife women using essential amino acids?
A daily, consistent approach is best, often with morning and evening servings for three months to observe lean muscle gains; avoid relying solely on meals when appetite is low, and pair with resistance training.
