  • Great podcast but needs a co-host

Great topics and guests. I do really like Rip but he’s not a great interviewer. I think the show would benefit by having another host to help him out

  • Ticks and the diseases they carry…

Instead of joking about introducing 50% of the population to a disease that ticks carry…maybe you could find some plant based ways for people and their pets to keep ticks from biting in the first place. Or a plant based way to eradicate ticks completely from this Earth. We can’t go outside anymore year round because of them. Lyme and all the other diseases they carry destroys people’s lives, as well as dogs and cats and moose and deer…and any other animal outside. Thank you.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 355: How Alternative Meat Could Replace Industrial Animal Agriculture with Bruce Friedrich
Q: How should farmers adapt or respond to this transition?
Farming could shift from traditional meat production to roles within plant-based and cultivated supply chains, including land stewardship and regenerative practices; policies and market structures can help farmers transition rather than be displaced.
Ep. 355: How Alternative Meat Could Replace Industrial Animal Agriculture with Bruce Friedrich
Q: What are the three types of alternative meats and which might win?
The three are plant-based, cultivated, and fermentation-based. Plant-based may arrive first due to existing momentum, but cultivated meat could ultimately offer indistinguishable products at scale; the winner may be a mix, with each serving different parts of the market and price points.
Ep. 355: How Alternative Meat Could Replace Industrial Animal Agriculture with Bruce Friedrich
Q: What is the mission of the Good Food Institute and how does it relate to the book?
The mission is to build a robust global scientific ecosystem that can scale alternative proteins, with governments funding science and infrastructure to drive adoption and ensure food security; the book lays out the rationale, three product paths, and the policy levers needed to accelerate the transition.
Ep. 351: The "Evil Cousin" to LDL - Why Everyone Should Know Their Lp(a) Number with Dr. Akil Taher
Q: What can people do if they have elevated LP little a?
There is no simple fix for LP little a, but risk reduction focuses on aggressive management of other factors (diet, exercise, sleep, stress), considering targeted therapies like Repatha that can lower LP little a by about 30-40%, and discussing cascade testing for relatives. In some cases, medications combined with a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle provide meaningful risk reduction.
Ep. 351: The "Evil Cousin" to LDL - Why Everyone Should Know Their Lp(a) Number with Dr. Akil Taher
Q: What exactly is LP little a and why is it important to test for it?
LP little a is a particle similar to LDL but with an extra protein that makes it stickier and more prone to clotting, increasing risk for heart attack, stroke, and aortic valve disease. It's often genetically inherited, requires a different testing approach (nanomoles per liter) to assess risk accurately, and knowing your number can drive proactive management and family cascade testing.
