  • Disappointing

I just started listening to this podcast as I was recently diagnosed with cancer. I was very disappointed tuning into the June 2020 podcast regarding fasting. I thought this was a show about cancer not about politics. If hear one more show regarding the authors’ views on politics, I will unsubscribe and reduce the rating to 1 star.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Future of Integrative Oncology
Q: What role do patients play in advancing the field?
Patients drive adoption by seeking vetted clinicians, sharing literature with their teams, and pushing for access to evidence-based integrative options, which accelerates real-time research and application.
The Future of Integrative Oncology
Q: What are some emerging trends in integrative oncology?
Consolidation of diet timing with treatments, safety trials in therapies like mistletoe, revival of photodynamic and sonodynamic therapies, and a shift toward combining conventional treatments with herbal and off-label approaches under careful testing and monitoring.
The Future of Integrative Oncology
Q: What has changed most in integrative oncology over the last three decades?
It has moved from being dismissed to being taken seriously, with epigenetics, pharmacogenomics, and precision medicine creating a shared language and better integration with standard care, largely driven by patient demand.
The vagus nerve, the missing link in Cancer survivorship.
Q: What is the noninvasive vagus stimulation you mentioned, and how does it work for patients?
Noninvasive vagus stimulation uses low-level milliampere frequencies to subtly stimulate the vagus nerve, improving HRV and serotonin production in the gut, which contributes to better sleep and calm; it's used alongside acupressure and breathwork to teach patients what relaxation feels like.
The vagus nerve, the missing link in Cancer survivorship.
Q: So, okay, this is very interesting to me. Is there any way that people can get an assessment of how well their vagus nerve is controlling their inflammation and keeping them in homeostasis?
HRV is a practical, real-time biomarker people can monitor with wearables; higher HRV suggests stronger parasympathetic (vagal) tone and better resilience, and in the study, those with improved HRV correlated with better fatigue, sleep, and distress outcomes.
