  • Wish I found this sooner!

My mom has been fighting Stage 4 Ovarian for 5 years now and I’ve been sharing integrative insights with her since reading How to Starve Cancer years ago, but to no avail. It’s really hard to convince a patient to expand their thinking beyond their oncologist alone. You all make these topics so easy to understand. You come off incredibly knowledgeable and unbiased. At a time where my mom needs more hope than ever, I’m using information and stories from your podcast and she is finally listening. ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Power of Connection with Beth Blakey, CEO, Cancer Hope Network
Q: Talk a little about Cancer Hope Network.
Beth explains that the network is a long-running, peer-mentorship program pairing survivors and caregivers with patients and other caregivers to provide non-medical, experiential support. The process includes intake, matching based on life circumstances, and ongoing professional oversight to ensure safety and effectiveness. They emphasize that mentors share lived experiences, not medical advice, and help mentees navigate questions to ask providers.
Navigating Cancer Care with Chad Levitt, MD
Q: What are the limitations of the current system and how does your model address them?
The guest discusses how conventional care often prioritizes efficiency and protocol over individual patient needs, and how his OncareMD membership model removes insurance biases to allow more time with patients, enabling tailored planning, pre-visit briefings, and post-visit debriefs to keep everyone aligned.
Navigating Cancer Care with Chad Levitt, MD
Q: Tell me a little bit more about how to put the patient at the center of the process of their oncology treatment.
Dr. Levitt explains that care should start with understanding the patient's priorities, ensuring informed consent with clear explanations of options, and coordinating among multiple providers so the patient remains the focus. He emphasizes the value of advocates and second opinions to help patients navigate complexity and to reduce the burden of information management on the patient.
Navigating Prostate Cancer: A Conversation with Dr. David Grew
Q: How could somebody be diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer with really no symptoms or no prior PSA that was elevating?
Some patients may not have regular PSAs and could have their cancer progress without detection, especially if they have aggressive Gleason scores.
Interview with Charlotte Bayala of The Cancer Caregiver Podcast
Q: What tips do you have for someone who is a caregiver and needs to ask for help?
Understand that you deserve help and it's important to ask the right people who can support you effectively.
