  • Thank you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your podcast is the very best and I found it just when I had given up all hope. I have listened to all of your episodes over and over.

Thank you for introducing us to the people who are working on a cure and those who have invested in the research. I had no idea there were people out there who cared about it. Up to this point my idea was that doctors brushed it off. At least mine did.

I hope you will be able to have some new episodes. For the time being ... more

  • Thank you!

I’ve had tinnitus for 15 years with some concern but only recently have found myself being truly bothered by it. I am cautious about doing too much personal research in case of encountering negative information. This podcast is super positive, genuinely informative and fills me full of confidence that tinnitus is very treatable and manageable now, but may even be completely curable in the future. Thank you and please keep it up!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tinnitus and Pain, One and the Same? - Prof. Peter McNaughton
Q: What about the process you've undertaken for drug discovery?
We've learned that drug discovery is extremely challenging, especially with the need for selectivity between similar channels and ensuring good pharmacokinetics.
Tinnitus and Pain, One and the Same? - Prof. Peter McNaughton
Q: How do these HCN2 channels come on your radar as a potential therapeutic target?
They can prevent nerve fibers from opening, which may help block chronic pain as well as tinnitus.
Tinnitus and Pain, One and the Same? - Prof. Peter McNaughton
Q: Can you talk about those fibers and where they are?
We're talking about the auditory nerve fibers, which are pivotal in detecting sounds, similar to the pain fibers detecting pain stimuli.
Tinnitus and Pain, One and the Same? - Prof. Peter McNaughton
Q: How would you describe for the lay person your theory of the underlying mechanisms of chronic pain and how it relates to tinnitus?
In the case of pain, I often say, you can do an experiment tonight with a brick on your toe to understand pain. Similarly, tinnitus might have its origin in different classes of auditory fibers similar to how pain is detected in specialized pain fibers.
Tinnitus and Pain, One and the Same? - Prof. Peter McNaughton
Q: Do you have any personal connection to this topic?
No, I don't have any personal connection. I just thought it was scientifically interesting.
