  • Good show bad ads

I like the show but I’ve unfollowed it because of the ads it runs. Especially the ads for TikTok.

  • This has gone from good to great.

Back at the beginning I almost deleted the pod because that guy, Daniel Pink, had a manner that made the show too gimmicky. But suddenly he left and it changed - got deeper, more thoughtful. Now I can't wait to hear the next episode. This has become a really important podcast - educationally and culturally - that I recommend to all my friends. I think it might save lives and marriages and other relationships. It’s so educational and goodhearted. And that “My Unsung Hero” is just the best.

  • Best editing work!

Thank you Editing Team, Shankar, Writers, Researchers, etc! I really enjoy how the shows were edited. The music, breaks, to the point, the buildup - so clean and easy. Of course it helps that Shankar has a soothing voice. BTW, this is my first ever review for a podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Waking Up Your Spiritual Brain: Part 2
Q: What are some spiritual disciplines, and how do they affect us?
Lisa Miller explains that practices like prayer, meditation, and action strengthen the awakened brain, especially when done consistently over years, not just in single instances.
Waking Up Your Spiritual Brain: Part 1
Q: So Lisa, there is a clinical term called dysthymia. What does it mean?
Dysthymia is a low-grade, nagging, persistent form of depression that lingers and creates a chronic, less intense feeling of disconnection or lack of delight in life; it can be prevalent in young people and tends to reflect a long-term, subdued unhappiness that affects daily life.
Stepping Out of the Shadows
Q: Kahneman and Tversky conducted early work showing that seemingly trivial changes in wording could produce really striking changes in people's preferences. Can you describe the study for me and what it found?
The study randomly described outcomes in terms of lives saved vs. lives lost and found framing dramatically changed risk preferences.
Who Are You, Really?
Q: What does it mean that there is no single unified self?
Eric Oliver explains that the self is a dynamic collection of processes (cellular, animal, linguistic, egoistic) that often conflict, and that observing this flow helps people understand their behavior beyond a fixed identity.
The Empathy Gym
Q: How does trauma influence empathy in the long term, according to the discussion?
Trauma can lead to altruism born of suffering, where enduring pain can increase care for others and push people toward helping roles, though outcomes vary and depend on social support.
