  • Eoin has helped me so much

I’ve had type one for about 10 years now. I’ve had a tough time with my original medical teams that helped me manager disease. I was wrongly diagnosed a type two early on and treatment was wrong. I stumbled upon the podcast in the last two years and it’s a game changer. Not just for all the physical tips for treating the disease but Eoin and his guests like Graham, that are honest that the disease is a daily work in proteas but that self care and self confidence are work. I’ve regained my confid... more

  • Old Dog, New Tricks

I’ve just stared listening to Eoin’s podcast a week ago. I’m up to #20. Along with a couple other youngsters 😃 on social media , I am picking up new tricks and learning new ways to deal with my diabetes. So, you can teach an old dog new tricks. I’m currently in range about 92% of the time and my last A1C was an all time best of 6.1. I’m now looking to get below 6.

I’m currently on Dexcom G6 and OmniPod 5. I started out in 1970 at age 15. Boiling my glass syringes and the needles. Peeing int... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#301: From Diabetic Complications to Running Across America, with Don Muchow
Q: What was it like being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 50 years ago?
Don recalls an intense, largely symptom-driven diagnosis in 1972, with limited home monitoring and a period where doctors advised against exercise; the early experience was isolating and fearful, shaping a cautious approach to activity for decades.
#299: What Happens When Diabetes Becomes Real, with Jye Warren
Q: Prior to diagnosis, what type of person were you outside of diabetes?
Jye describes himself as upbeat, fitness-oriented, and social, living a semi-professional sports life on the Gold Coast. He valued health and activity, but admits he and his family had limited education about type 1 diabetes, which delayed recognition of symptoms.
#300: The Reality Of Running Marathons With Type 1 Diabetes, with Steven Cannady
Q: Why continue running marathons despite the challenges of Type 1 diabetes?
The guest expresses a mix of passion and purpose—fundraising for diabetes nonprofits, the personal sense of accomplishment, and the belief that diabetes should not define limits; running provides motivation, community, and a platform to inspire others with diabetes.
#300: The Reality Of Running Marathons With Type 1 Diabetes, with Steven Cannady
Q: Do you have a system or strategy for carbohydrate intake during long runs, and how do you handle insulin during these events?
Yes. The guest describes a detailed plan with pre-race carb loading (gels, oat bars, and drinks) and regular in-race carb consumption every few miles, while avoiding rapid insulin on race day and adjusting only after finishing, relying on body signals and experience to navigate highs and lows.
#300: The Reality Of Running Marathons With Type 1 Diabetes, with Steven Cannady
Q: What does it actually take to train for and complete a marathon, given Type 1 diabetes?
There isn't a single blueprint; it depends on individual goals, but the guest emphasizes structured planning, using tools like chat-based plans or Garmin, and tailoring runs to target paces and long-run strategies while constantly balancing carb intake, insulin adjustments, and ongoing glucose monitoring.
