  • Rant therapy

I read 130 books in 2024. 40-45% were audiobooks. Audiobooks count. Read about it or “research” about. No, I don’t read research papers. Everyone’s life circumstances and different. Live and let live. Yes, rant therapy works! Thanks.

  • Easy listening

I enjoy the camaraderie between the hosts. I have Carolyn’s Meals That Heal cookbooks. The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star rating is because they use the word “like” too much.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Death List: The Checklist You Need Before Your Parents Die
Q: Where do we start with getting our parents' documents in order?
Begin with confirming residency and which state's forms apply, then gather and review wills, advance directives, health care proxies, and financial powers of attorney, ensuring all documents align and are accessible to the people who will need them.
Hormone Therapy: Is it Right for You? - PART 2
Q: How do you find a qualified hormone therapy provider near you?
The guest emphasizes seeking doctors or nurse practitioners with formal training in menopause and hormone therapy, highlighting organizations and databases (e.g., Menopause Society, IFM, A4M) and advising against weekend-certificate med spa options.
Hormone Therapy: Is it Right for You? - PART 2
Q: Is there a best age to start hormone replacement therapy?
The expert notes that while earlier start can maximize cardiac protection, there is value in starting when symptoms arise or when there is a clear need, and that recent guidance has broadened the window to include older ages with careful management (e.g., preferring transdermal estrogen in older patients).
Hormone Therapy: Is It Right for You—PART 1
Q: How do delivery methods like pellets, patches, creams, and oral forms compare in terms of safety and effectiveness?
Delivery methods vary: transdermal options (creams, patches) bypass liver metabolism and can reduce clot risk; pellets provide steady hormone release but require careful dosing and monitoring; creams and troches offer flexible dosing and can be adjusted by route; oral forms are convenient but may carry different risk profiles, particularly regarding clotting and liver metabolism. Treatment plans should balance symptom relief with safety and patient lifestyle.
Hormone Therapy: Is It Right for You—PART 1
Q: Who is actually a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy, and who is not appropriate for it?
Candidates are typically women experiencing menopause-related symptoms who seek symptom relief and health benefits like bone and heart protection, with careful consideration given to personal history (e.g., past blood clots or breast cancer). For those with certain risk factors, transdermal or non-oral estrogen and bioidentical progesterone may be preferred, while oral estrogen may be avoided in some cases. The decision is highly individualized and involves discussing risks, monitoring, and preferences.
