Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Pearls & Perspectives: Sexual Health at the Intersection of Urology and Therapy, with Nicoletta Heidegger, MA, MEd, LMFT
Q: How can healthcare providers recommend sex therapy without implying it's 'all in your head'?
You can explain the benefits of a biopsychosocial approach to care, which includes working with a therapist.
Pearls & Perspectives: Sexual Health at the Intersection of Urology and Therapy, with Nicoletta Heidegger, MA, MEd, LMFT
Q: Who should we send to see a sex therapist?
Everyone. Most sexual concerns are never just physiological, and working with a therapist can improve outcomes.
The UroOnc Minute: Prostate Cancer Screening in the Transgender Population, with Farnoosh Nik-Ahd, MD
Q: How is this going to impact clinical practice? What should our urologists in the community be conveying to the primary care providers about screening and cutoffs and when to refer?
Awareness that transgender women remain at risk of prostate cancer and should still be considered for PSA screening, and be careful when interpreting PSA values especially if the patient is on gender-affirming hormones or has had surgery.
The UroOnc Minute: Prostate Cancer Screening in the Transgender Population, with Farnoosh Nik-Ahd, MD
Q: What do we currently know on this topic? What should the general urology population know?
We're really in the early stages of our understanding, but what we do know is that transgender women retain their prostate regardless of whether or not they've undergone gender affirmation surgery, so they're still at risk for prostate cancer, and so they should still be considered for prostate cancer screening.
Pearls & Perspectives: Promoting Trauma-Informed Sexual Medicine, With Lauren Walker, PhD
Q: Can you tell us about your current study and how to participate?
We are looking for healthcare providers from all fields to provide feedback on proposed recommendations related to trauma-informed care in pelvic health.
