  • Bad Apple

Thank you for talking about this. I remember seeing Dobson’s books growing up. My parents listened to him on the radio. I remember listening in one time and Dobson was talking with another man about a girl who was really upset about something legitimate. They were mimicking her in a very whiny voice and laughing at her pain and suffering. Even as a child I knew this man was bad.

  • Making Sense of What Happened to Me

This is the podcast I want my therapist to listen to, the podcast I also sometimes ask my partner and friends to listen to… the podcast my DNA donors (can’t really call them parents) could listen to if they wanted to understand why we cannot be in touch. The content can be heavy but it’s insightful, well-researched, and thoughtfully communicated. This pod is part of an array of resources I’m using to make sense of my origins and learn/communicate what I need to seek out to further my own healing... more

  • Great podcast, keep it up!

Just want to thank you for the excellent podcast and especially for bringing my attention to the “rapture ready” website. That site has provided me and my family a priceless bonding experience as together we read, laugh uncontrollably, then use reason and logic to debunk the ridiculous content within. Cheers!

  • I want to like this

The content is important and relevant. Unfortunately, the hosts use of “like” incessantly makes this podcast difficult to tolerate.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Erica Smith & The Purity Culture Dropout Guide
Q: What are the top five things that are just normal to us evangelicals that you were shocked by?
As an outsider, Erica was shocked by the oppressive teachings around worth being tied to belief in Jesus, the policing of girls' bodies, the restrictions on friendship dynamics between genders, the expectation of providing sexual duty within marriage, and the overarching effort to train young people towards a rigid political agenda.
Interview with Ryan Stollar
Q: Who is actually most likely to abuse children in the United States?
Child sexual predators are more likely to be family members or trusted individuals, such as parents or caregivers, rather than strangers.
Christian Zionism 101 (Again)
Q: What do you know about Christian Zionism?
I know this idea about Israel and the End Times and Israel returning to their land, it was sort of in the water as part of the narrative.
Catching Fire Part 1 (Hunger Games Series)
Q: What themes have emerged from the first Hunger Games book and movie?
The overarching theme is violence against children, evident in many mythologies and evident in the dynamics of evangelicalism.
The Attachment Style of a Trashbag
Q: Do any of the characters seem to have a fearful avoidant attachment style?
The hosts discuss Eleanor as fitting the fearful avoidant attachment style; she desires connection but feels unworthy of love due to her past. Meanwhile, Jason seems secure, while Tahani displays traits of both anxious and fearful avoidant attachment. Chidi is identified as more avoidant due to his tendency to live in his head rather than engage emotionally.
