These wonderful people continuously give me hope and solace by breaking down the trauma shared by those who grew up under the abusive teachings of James Dobson. Their chemistry as friends and colleagues makes them wonderful hosts, and their knowledge and understanding give such depth to the analysis of his works and their consequences.
Highly recommend this lovely pair
I’ve really been enjoying this podcast, which takes a thoughtful well- researched look at evangelicalism and its impact on today’s world. The dynamic between the two hosts is delightful, representing a difference in generations as well as exposure to evangelical Christianity. Jake is a charming Gen Zer whose patient explanation of his own lived experience with evangelical Christianity is genuine and relatable. I truly enjoy Brooke, the Gen Xer atheist (like me) whose bubbly personality and willi... more
Jake’s vulnerability and Brooke’s willingness to learn about these awful things make this such an amazing show!
Jake and Brooke are my favorite every other week tradition. I love this labor of love - spite - and I love the merch.
Understanding can be such a key step in healing, and Jake and Brooke bring so much light to those niggly little evangelical brain worms that can be hard to dislodge otherwise! Jake’s diligent research and Brooke’s questions and reactions pair perfectly. It’s so refreshing to hear Brooke be like “okay that’s WILD” about something that was “normal” in my childhood—and I can join in like, “you know what? That WAS wild!”
