I love this show and Sadie especially and have been binging episodes non stop. However I’m begging the hosts PLEASE decide if you want to swear on your show or not swear on your show. It’s incredibly painful to listen to your show when there are constant loud beeps (particularly when wearing headphones.) It makes absolutely no sense at all that one host swears in almost every single sentence and then you edit out the swearing with non-stop beeping. I love the content and don’t want to have to un... more
I started listening after watching ‘Shiny Happy People’ doc and wanted to know more about this world. This podcast was exactly what I was looking for . The dynamic between the hosts - their knowledge their curiosity is extremely engaging. Also really appreciate how they have been highlighting the similarities /connections/overlap between cults and domestic violence . In particular coercive control, which is such a hard concept to wrap your head around. Thank you
Please get to the point and stop talking about random stuff
I recently discovered this podcast when it was mentioned in another podcast I listened to.
I listened to the referenced episode & I was blown away with Sadie’s nuanced and compassionate approach. I appreciated her transparency with her struggles in denouncing certain aspects of her previous religion. She really brings you into her process.
That made me go back to the beginning of the catalog & listen to all the episodes. I’m almost caught up! I just love Sadie so much! Her curiosity & resear... more

A thought-provoking exploration of religious trauma, deconversion, and high-control belief systems. Conversations center on ex-fundie experiences, cult dynamics, and the broader social impact of religious indoctrination, with a focus on accountability, survivor perspectives, and critical analysis of fundie culture and media portrayals. Noteworthy is the hosts' candid blend of lived experience and rigorous research, plus a willingness to tackle difficult topics with empathy, sharp humor, and a survivor-informed lens. The show often pairs personal narratives with historical context, interviews, and topical commentary on contemporary religion, media representation, and ways to protect freedom of mind and belief.
