  • Thank you!!

As a Former Trad-wife who followed the ridiculous movement. I’m grateful for what you do. So many times the church shuns us and we feel crazy. I felt crazy telling my pastors my husband was abusing me. It’s great to hear religious abuse being exposed by you and so many. It’s even more refreshing to know that a male can see it. We’re not alone those who want to hear will hear and more people will be reminding that they aren’t crazy.

  • Moving away from his mission

There must not be much abuse happening in IFB churches now, because Eric is moving into politics. I agree with others who have said to start a different podcast for that. I still attend an IFB church and listen to find out what to look for in my church, but this podcast is delving into areas that don’t seem to deal with abuse. Starting to lose me as a listener.

  • Very true

I was raised in an IFB church and went to an IFB college for one year and these stories are all too common.

  • Ep 346

Episode 346 was excellent and heartbreaking, and could have been a great moment to additionally talk about how the church does nothing about mental illness. Obviously her husband was (is?) in a years-long mental health crisis which escalated into severe delusions, paranoia, erratic behavior, and horrible violence. And all the church did about it, was to fire him for bad theology. What a terrible disservice. It's just so sad the lack of basic knowledge that people growing up in church recieve. Mi... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: What gives you the most hope right now?
Even though I'm filled with rage, I have faith in my species and see people doing amazing things every day. I trust that we will figure things out together.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: What is it about your song 'Blue Eyed Jesus' that encapsulates your view of the world?
It was written with women who understood my experiences, and it calls out the false profits and manipulative figures in our lives.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: Do you feel like the country music genre specifically is more difficult to express progressive ideas?
There are definitely many people talking about progressive ideas, but the industry is slow to adapt to change and holds onto traditional values tightly.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: Can you talk a little bit about your experience with sexual abuse and how it's informed you as an artist?
I lost my virginity through a drugging incident and became self-destructive afterward. I want to communicate certain experiences to help others remove the shame surrounding them, especially since it was before the Me Too movement.
Psychobabble: The Epidemic of Mental Health Misinformation | Joe Nucci
Q: What are some things that are like really sacred to people that you may be kind of, they feel like you trampled on or an idea that they thought they knew something about?
I've seen some reviews in my chapters where I talk about individual agency versus systemic change.
