  • Thank you!!

As a Former Trad-wife who followed the ridiculous movement. I’m grateful for what you do. So many times the church shuns us and we feel crazy. I felt crazy telling my pastors my husband was abusing me. It’s great to hear religious abuse being exposed by you and so many. It’s even more refreshing to know that a male can see it. We’re not alone those who want to hear will hear and more people will be reminding that they aren’t crazy.

  • Moving away from his mission

There must not be much abuse happening in IFB churches now, because Eric is moving into politics. I agree with others who have said to start a different podcast for that. I still attend an IFB church and listen to find out what to look for in my church, but this podcast is delving into areas that don’t seem to deal with abuse. Starting to lose me as a listener.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

His Dad Went to Prison for Child Sexual Abuse | Interview with Joshua Hirner
Q: What led you to cut ties and how did the family respond within the church community?
The realization that the leadership protected the predator over victims spurred estrangement from the church and from his father, leading to a broader critique of the church's handling of abuse.
His Dad Went to Prison for Child Sexual Abuse | Interview with Joshua Hirner
Q: What was your first memory of your father as a kid in that environment?
Joshua describes him as a hero who could be both loving and frightening, with moments of affection that felt normal at the time, which later contrasted sharply with the crimes he would commit.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: What gives you the most hope right now?
Even though I'm filled with rage, I have faith in my species and see people doing amazing things every day. I trust that we will figure things out together.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: What is it about your song 'Blue Eyed Jesus' that encapsulates your view of the world?
It was written with women who understood my experiences, and it calls out the false profits and manipulative figures in our lives.
Lou Ridley | Surviving the "Bible Belt" and Making Country Music Rebellious Again
Q: Do you feel like the country music genre specifically is more difficult to express progressive ideas?
There are definitely many people talking about progressive ideas, but the industry is slow to adapt to change and holds onto traditional values tightly.
