  • A Must Listen!

SWAJ has been a breath of fresh air for me. I found them right after Trump was elected (2016) and needed to make sense of how and why this happened, stayed because all the conversations about “hot button” topics are so important and spot on, and have remained engaged through the insanitary of a 2nd Trump administration.— not to mention, the deconstruction of my faith (from growing up within evangelicalism/ fundamentalism) has been painful, confusing and isolating at times- and the conversations ... more

  • Reflects my Faith

This mob are pretty special. I spent 53 years in mission and community development and I don’t find this mob the least bit offensive. Far from it. Folks like me are mostly digging in deep to our beliefs and so are these folks. Also their theological framework gives a fairly obvious reflection on the current (2026) US Administration.

  • This should be listened to by all of those who follow the suffering servant savior Christ.

This show really helps me a get a more legitimate grasp of Christ. God incarnate who did not try set a regime, but died for everyone, without resistance or fight. This perspective here, slaps Christian Nationalism in the face.

  • Christian Teaching Style Undermines Content

The premise of this show is interesting and I believe that the hosts are earnest in what they are attempting to do. However, as I listen to it it falls into the the trap of Christian teaching style which is stating a point slowly and repeating it but never actually substantiating the point. It’s a subtle this is true because I say it is true that plagues churches. Spend an hour in a JW meeting and this exact style is on display. It’s a form of trust me bro that can be particularly damaging when ... more

The Sunday Interview: Deconstructing Wellness Culture: Yoga, Mindfulness, and Appropriation
Q: How does the wellness industry relate to religious traditions and potential appropriation?
The host and guest discuss how mindfulness, yoga, and other practices often originate in non-European religious traditions but are filtered through American culture, sometimes becoming Protestantized or commodified, which raises questions about consent, community, and the ethics of borrowing.
The Sunday Interview: Deconstructing Wellness Culture: Yoga, Mindfulness, and Appropriation
Q: What was the genesis of the book Beyond Wellness?
Liz Bucar explains that the book emerged from wanting to look beyond surface-level wellness trends to understand how religious and ethical systems shape these practices, with a focus on how wellness intersects with Protestant, Christian-rooted contexts and broader cultural dynamics.
The Myth of Religious Freedom w/ Reza Aslan and Peter Manseau
Q: What is this season trying to accomplish in terms of the broader story of religion in America?
The season seeks to tell the real, more complex history of religion in the United States, showing that pluralism arose not from a unified consensus but through conflict, resistance, and inclusion of marginalized voices.
The Sunday Interview: Paul Pressler, the SBC Takeover, and a Culture of Power and Abuse
Q: For those who don't know, what are some basic outlines of Paul Pressler's life, and how has he been so influential in people's lives even if they don't know it?
Pressler was a central organizer of the SBC's conservative takeover, coming from Southern aristocracy, with deep ties to oil money and political networks. His work helped align the SBC with broader conservative politics, creating a lasting influence on church-state relations, culture, and policy. His leadership and the archival record show a pattern of shaping religious and political life, often through strategic power plays and suppression of dissent, which has affected many believers and institutions even when his name isn't widely known.
The Sunday Interview: Governing Without Accountability: Silicon Valley’s Ideology with Adrian Daub
Q: What motivated you to explore what tech elites think governance looks like?
Daub explains that a privileged window into Silicon Valley revealed how these elites imagine power as something that operates beyond traditional institutions, prompting a need to examine how their thinking translates into real-world governance and policy.
