I grew up Southern Baptist, and gay, not a good mix for acceptance or good mental health. This show shines a spotlight on everything that is wrong and still maintains the kind of love and mindfulness Christians should be about. I appreciate their brutal honesty and authenticity about both the wrong and the right things happening in religious institutions and/or traditions, and most importantly their fight against Christian nationalism and the immense harm it causes.
Election Day, 2016- I cast my ballot and went straight to my car and sobbed in the parking lot. I knew it was wrong but couldn’t put words to it. I love Jesus. I just didn’t know how to make my vote align to my love of Jesus. I have struggled for the last ten years- not being about to verbalize my anger and outrage because I am a Christian. April’s book- Star Spangled Jesus put to words what I was feeling and what has been brewing in my heart. Thank you! I am now listening to this podcast along ... more
