Dismantling New Age cults, wellness grifters, and conspiracy-mad yogis. At best, the conspirituality movement attacks public health efforts in times of crisis. At worst, it fronts and recruits for the fever-dream of QAnon. As the alt-right and New Age horseshoe toward each other in a blur of disinformation, clear discourse, and good intentions get smothered. Charismatic influencers exploit their f... more

As black rain falls from the smoke-choked skies of Tehran, the US and Israel continue their war against the Islamic Republic of Iran. From the start, Trump officials have seemed only to disagree on both the murky rationale and the objectives of their... more
Matthew found out that the late Marxist historian Michael Parenti went on a yoga retreat at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas. He clocked the BS immediately—unlike Matthew when he showed up in spaces like that decades later. Was political training ... more
Matthew digs into the fascism-enabling political theology of Bishop Robert Barron and the rightward slide of Big Catholic media. From his early admiration of Thomas Merton—carefully stripped of his antiwar and anti-capitalist passion—to his praise fo... more

I want to give this episode zero stars, but I don’t want to knock the pod’s overall rating down because it is a good resource. It’s funny, as well; I’m not sure they realize how hilarious they are, but I hope they do.
I decided to go with three, it’s enough to maybe cause a blip and show up on their radar, but not enough to drag it down.
Also, I typically read mid-line reviews, not the two extreme ends of nut fluffing and off-topic complaints posted by people who’ve just blundered their way on... more
I was hopeful at first about this podcast but I see it is just another bashing against our current administration and the MAHA movement. I always try to listen to both sides of an issue but I am not getting thoughtful discourse from this channel.
I really tried listening but can’t stomach the name calling anymore and one sided hysterics. Good bye, I will leave you to your echo chamber.
I’m still listening, and will continue to. Keep up the good work.
The research feels one sided and they don’t apply nearly the level of scrutiny to mainstream medicine as they do to wellness.
I’ve been listening since ep. 1 and stg these college educated cis white Gen X men have gotten me through these troubled times firmly on the side of logic and science. I’m a woowoo believer so I genuinely think that without this critical eye on who’s profiteering off selling “vibes” I very easily could’ve gone the anti vax q adjacent slip & slide route. Thank you for the compassionate dose of sanity from inside the new age milieu. A lifeline to rational thought.
