In this episode, Moira walks Adrian through the strange, disturbing world of looksmaxxing. We try to spend less time asking where this phenomenon comes from, less time gawking at the weird terminology and rituals of this subculture (though we do spen... more

Expanding on our Project 1933 series, for this episode we talked to historian Sam Huneke about the fate of queer women in Nazi Germany, 1933 and onward. This is a surprisingly contested history, because there was, for a long time, an assumption that ... more

Appreciate the ease and intelligence of the hosts. I admire Moira so much - great show!
These two snobs are so nasty and exaggerate so terrifically it really is unlistenable. I tried a couple of times to listen and then I did the most amazing thing - I turned them off!
I’ve snuck into a graduate level gender studies seminar at Stanford and I’m not paying tuition. These 2 academics are so brilliant and my only critique is that Apple Podcasts didn’t let me find them earlier.
Long time listener - as one should be.
This is a really enjoyable podcast. For the most part it avoids being overly snarky and maintains a level of thoughtfulness I truly appreciate. However, I find at times a lack of specificity in some of the episodes that can be frustrating. For example, the Tech Vibe Shifts episode about AI was literally the generalized, vague convo I’ve heard from them. The kept saying things like “These companies..,” “These people..,” “These billboards” “Conservatives this or that” without any real info on who ... more

A deeply analytical show that examines right-wing ideas about gender, sexuality, and culture through a scholarly lens. Each episode often builds a theory-forward critique, drawing on feminism, queer theory, and political history to unpack how gender narratives shape public discourse and policy. Notable strengths include rigorous textual analysis, a knack for connecting historical context to contemporary issues, and a dynamic host duo who balance provocative ideas with careful sourcing. Listeners likely seek rigorous, niche critique of power structures, with frequent references to academia and social theory. The format's emphasis on long-form discussion and primary-source framing is a standout feature that makes complex topics accessible to ... more
