  • Love it - informative yet fun!

I stumbled across this podcast during my maternity leave and wasn’t it a great little find. I’ve loved listening to all the episodes and learning some of the why behind all the various medical steps in the antenatal journey I have just been through. My only wish is that this podcast had come out just a little bit sooner so I could have listened during my own antenatal journey. I’ll just have to hope you keep the episodes coming for when it’s time for me to have my second bub.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Pelvic Floor Resilience: Building Strength for a Healthy Pregnancy and Beyond: Part 1
Q: Is there anything that people can do before pregnancy or during pregnancy to support the pelvic floor and reduce those symptoms?
Pelvic floor muscle training during pregnancy has strong evidence as a preventive measure against postnatal incontinence; starting before pregnancy can be beneficial, and maintaining an ongoing exercise routine (two sets of eight repetitions, a couple of times per week) provides meaningful support and control.
Pelvic Floor Resilience: Building Strength for a Healthy Pregnancy and Beyond: Part 1
Q: So let's start and ask, what exactly is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is a region inside the pelvis that includes the pelvic floor muscles as well as the bladder, vagina, bowel, and the ligaments, nerves and blood vessels that connect these structures; the muscles are designed to integrate with pelvic functions like bladder and bowel control and sexual function.
ART: The Many Paths to Parenthood
Q: What are typical costs for these methods and how does that vary by procedure?
First specialist consults are around $300-$400, ovulation induction cycles around $400 each, IUI around $2,500 per cycle, with variability by clinic and services included.
ART: The Many Paths to Parenthood
Q: On average, how long might people need to be trying one of these methods before they see a pregnancy?
Three cycles of ovulation induction or IUI are often used as a practical review point to assess effectiveness and decide on next steps, with success rates varying by age and individual factors; it is not guaranteed in one cycle and patience with monitoring is important.
Fertility and Infertility: A Specialist Perspective
Q: How should couples approach AMH testing?
AMH should be used purposefully to inform specific decisions like IVF or egg freezing, not as a standalone forecast of fertility; high or low values must be interpreted within age and overall reproductive planning.
