  • A great pregnancy companion

“As a mum, I found this podcast invaluable. Both during my ivf process and during my pregnancies. Listening to such a wide range of birth stories gave me both reassurance and strength, and helped me prepare for my own journey with knowledge and highlighting the amount of choice we do have. There’s something so powerful in hearing these experiences shared so openly.”

  • Really helpful!

As a medical student interested in O&G I’ve found this podcast really helpful in understanding the birth world from the lens of midwives and doulas and most importantly, the women! I do sometimes find some of the content of the stories a little anti-doctor which is such a shame, but I understand that often this comes from a place where women have felt let down by the medical system. It is important to talk about this to effect change in a historically patriarchal and paternalistic system. Sophie... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

609 | Managing Pregnancy Aches, Pelvic Pain & Recovery with Osteopath Dr Daniela Aiello
Q: What should someone do if they're worried about pain and unsure whether to seek help?
If pain is persistent, doesn't improve with rest, or is accompanied by alarming symptoms, seek professional assessment. Early evaluation helps prevent chronic pain and can improve birth experiences and postpartum recovery.
609 | Managing Pregnancy Aches, Pelvic Pain & Recovery with Osteopath Dr Daniela Aiello
Q: How early in pregnancy can these issues start, and what can someone do proactively?
Hormonal changes start early, and symptoms can begin around nine weeks or earlier. Proactive steps include cautious activity modification, appropriate movement and posture, gentle soft tissue work, and education about what to expect and how to manage symptoms to prevent them from worsening.
609 | Managing Pregnancy Aches, Pelvic Pain & Recovery with Osteopath Dr Daniela Aiello
Q: What are the most common presentations you see in pregnancy, and how do you approach them diagnostically?
We see pelvic girdle pain, lower back pain, carpal tunnel, and related conditions. I explain pelvic girdle pain as an umbrella term with many possible underlying issues; the approach is to identify the exact structure involved (sacroiliac joint, pubic synthesis, etc.) and tailor treatment to the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all plan.
606 | Lauren, Six children, doula, identical twins, water birth, precipitous labour
Q: How did your first birth shape your view of birth and your career?
The rapid first labour sparked a lifelong interest in the physiology of birth and helped motivate her to support others through similar experiences, ultimately guiding her toward doula work and becoming an advocate for informed, continuous care.
