  • The Big Picture

This podcast has helped me improve my health but I wish they would dedicate a show to giving context on fermented foods for those of us who taking statins and BP meds. If we have to watch our sodium and saturated fat intake should we avoid fermented foods, does fermentation process negate our concerns or are their some foods we should avoid and others that are safe to eat in terms of fat and sodium. Thanks Zoe Team!

  • Used t o be a big fan

Received an email recently saying Zoe has been endorsed by Oprah. The lady who famously endorsed Dr Oz and Dr Phil. I’ve lost a lot of respect for the company given it feels to me now like it’s now just pushing expensive supplements and now they’ve gone down the celeb endorsement route. I’m out.

  • reflected, scientific, not just out to sell you something

The antithesis to all the Influencer BS put there - people who actually know what they talk about, discussion and discourse oriented and not just out to sell you something.

  • Please stop excluding women from research

    Please stop

Excluding women because their menstrual cycles might affect the impact. We are 50% of the population. Menstruation needs to be in the control group otherwise you can only generalise results to men !!!

If you get enough women in the research then you don’t need to control for the first day of period etc etc.

I’m so tired of this !

How to feed the 50 gut bacteria that shrink body fat, calm inflammation and cut cholesterol | Prof Nicola Segata & Prof Sarah Berry
Q: What makes this research so groundbreaking from your perspective?
Two aspects: first, establishing a health-associated microbiome signature that can be measured; second, demonstrating through longitudinal data and randomized trials that diet can causally alter the microbiome and thus health outcomes.
How to feed the 50 gut bacteria that shrink body fat, calm inflammation and cut cholesterol | Prof Nicola Segata & Prof Sarah Berry
Q: Nicola, is there really a link between the species of bacteria in our guts and our long-term health?
Yes, there are clear associations between certain gut bacteria and health outcomes, and through large-scale data and longitudinal trials we are moving toward causal links by showing how diet drives specific microbiome changes that relate to health.
Most replayed moment: Reduce anxiety by improving your gut health | Uma Naidoo
Q: What practical dietary steps can someone take to reduce anxiety related to diet?
Start with the SAW framework—swap one unhealthy food for a healthier option, add more vegetables and calming nutrients, and walk or move daily to support mental health.
Most replayed moment: Reduce anxiety by improving your gut health | Uma Naidoo
Q: What is a serotonin receptor and how is it linked to the gut and brain?
Serotonin receptors are widespread, and most serotonin activity occurs in the gut; the gut's microbiome and its neurotransmitters influence mood by interacting with these receptors via the gut-brain axis.
Most replayed moment: Carbs: the good, the bad, and the misunderstood | Tim Spector
Q: Does eating carbs with other foods at the same time affect blood sugar spikes?
Yes, wrapping sugars in other foods like fiber or fats softens the digestion and slows glucose rise, so meal composition matters more than any single carb.
