  • I LOVE this podcast

I would listen to anything Dr Chris or Dr Xand decide to put into the world, and the work Chris has done on UPF truly changed my life. I’ve been enjoying so many episodes of this podcast but especially the one about hips with Dr Paulina Kloskowska - she was amazing and my goodness I feel seen! Keep up the good work and I’ll keep recommending everything you do to everyone I know!

  • Confirmation bias r us

Both presenters constantly latch on to anything that supports their existing views. I want to like the show and the guests are good but the presenters are not which is a shame because I want to like them. Especially around diet and exercise there is an obesity epidemic (diet) and a lot of unfit people out there (exercise) and yet the hosts latch onto any suggestion that tiny changes / carrying on as normal is fine.

Thank you, Docs VT. I have become so much better informed after listening to your episodes. Loss of Hearing, Core Strength, Back Pain, Dental Hygiene, the series on Joy, Smiling and Laughter and especially the one on Nature and Boredom. As an educator, I feel like posting this episode to Mayor Mamdani requesting him to place a 'Boredom' specialist in all our inner city high schools! He is a listener. Which brings me to four topics I would love to learn more about - Listening vs Hearing (mental c... more

  • No one wants a daily version

This just got increasingly irksome; and the change to a daily feed from weekly is dreadful.

How should we think about cholesterol?
Q: Should I get my cholesterol tested and how should I interpret the result?
Cholesterol is part of a broader cardiovascular risk assessment; testing is useful for understanding risk, but results should be considered alongside other factors like blood pressure, smoking, and diabetes; discuss results with a GP.
How should we think about cholesterol?
Q: What role do statins play and what about their side effects?
Statins lower LDL cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk; while side effects are possible, they are relatively uncommon, and if concerns arise, alternatives exist and a GP should be consulted.
How should we think about cholesterol?
Q: Does fiber have an impact on blood cholesterol?
Yes. Fiber lowers cholesterol in part by reducing absorption through beta-glucan and by supporting a high-fiber, whole-grain pattern, which helps improve the lipid profile.
Doctors' Notes: Cholesterol
Q: Is there much real change in the guidance around saturated fat and related dietary advice?
Nita explains that the overall guidance has shifted to emphasize food-based patterns over single nutrients, noting that saturated fats should be limited but the focus should be on what replaces them in the diet and in what context, such as the Mediterranean pattern.
Doctors' Notes: Buildings
Q: How should regulators or planners engage with the public about building design?
Encourage broader public dialogue, simplify technical language, and design processes that make it easier for citizens to contribute, which can lead to more humane, healthier urban outcomes.
