  • Excellent Content - Awful Audio Quality

This content is incredible and helpful. Thank you for your commitment to raise awareness for PANDAS. My 12yo son has been on this horrible journey since his strep diagnosis in March of 2023. With a challenge of finding a pediatrician who recognizes PANDAS in Minnesota, we are now going back and forth to Colorado every three weeks as we are committed to getting our son the treatment he needs. We need more awareness and appreciate you both for doing this.

Please consider investing in better audio... more

  • What a gift. Thank you!

We are at the beginning of exploring PANS/PANDAS as a diagnosis for one of our children. Your stories brought me to tears throughout, but left me with hope.

I am a fellow parent trying to find answers for our child’s constellation of sudden medical/psychiatric issues, and not once has a provider brought this up as a possibility. We’re on waiting lists to be evaluated but I’m so frustrated our child - and family - have suffered for more than a year. My child is hospitalized right now and I feel ... more

Evie Meg talks about PANS/PANDAS, encephalitis, dystonia, OCD, Bartonella and Lyme Disease
Q: Can you explain how SOT therapy for Bartonella changed your condition and what the experience was like?
SOT was highly effective, customized to her DNA and Bartonella profile, producing noticeable improvement during treatment, followed by a Herxheimer reaction as the infection died off, after which symptoms improved markedly.
Evie Meg talks about PANS/PANDAS, encephalitis, dystonia, OCD, Bartonella and Lyme Disease
Q: What was the turning point that helped you move from a purely psychiatric framing to recognizing potential organic causes?
A social-media encounter pointing toward PANS and encephalitis, combined with new blood and brain findings, helped her connect mental health symptoms with physical illness and pursue the right investigations.
Evie Meg talks about PANS/PANDAS, encephalitis, dystonia, OCD, Bartonella and Lyme Disease
Q: How did the onset of illness at a formative age affect your identity and future plans, such as gymnastics and adolescence?
The onset disrupted a life she'd planned around high-level sport and social life, altering self-image and priorities, but also clarified the seriousness of inflammation and led to a search for proper diagnosis and care.
Treating the Whole Child: PANS/PANDAS, Neuroinflammation & Hope with Dr. Leila Mason
Q: What role do sleep and the oral microbiome play in managing inflammation?
Sleep quality directly influences immune health and inflammation; likewise, oral hygiene and managing the oral microbiome can prevent inflammatory flares, especially around dental procedures or braces, making these aspects crucial alongside medical treatment.
Treating the Whole Child: PANS/PANDAS, Neuroinflammation & Hope with Dr. Leila Mason
Q: How do you balance medical and lifestyle interventions in treatment?
I use an integrative approach: combine medications with sleep optimization, nutrition, exercise, and supplements, while carefully monitoring immune function and avoiding long-term antibiotic use when possible to protect the microbiome.
