  • Not your average podcast

As a featured guest, I was so nervous going into this podcast with Claire’s background and hearing the wondering guest prior to me. Claire made me feel welcomed, safe, and as if two old kindred spirits had just linked back up. As a listener, her episodes get better and better as you listen to them. She pulls these raw emotions from people, sometimes unexpectedly, and it becomes so relatable. Definitely add this podcast to your list!

Although I haven’t experienced grief in the form of death, this podcast really struck a chord with me. It captures the many forms of grief we all feel. The conversations are real, relatable, and comforting. Highly recommend giving it a listen, wherever you are in your own experience with loss or grief.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S3 E5- Facing the Void: Death Anxiety & Embracing Mortality
Q: What do you think happens when we die?
The guest shares a fluid, philosophical exploration—ranging from energy transformation and potential collective consciousness to the idea that nothingness or consciousness-soup could describe what remains, with personal resonance and a recognition that beliefs often evolve over time.
S2 E1- The Weight of "Strong": Grief, Profound Loss, and Finding Authentic Connection
Q: You wrote about 'the squirm' and its importance for genuine connection—what does squirm represent to you and why is it vital for healing?
Squirm represents facing truth that is intensely painful and uncomfortable, rather than rushing to a neat, consoling bow. It is in those uncomfortable moments that people reveal their humanity and capacity for real listening, which creates true connection and intimacy. Avoiding the squirm by offering platitudes signals a lack of willingness to meet the other person where they actually are, which erodes trust and healing.
S3 E1- "If I Get Cancer Again- I am Getting Divorced" (PART 1)
Q: And your fiancé at the time, what was his role throughout all of this?
He showed up at appointments but was overwhelmed emotionally; over time, their relationship became strained, leading to separation and eventually divorce as she prioritized her own healing and safety.
S2 E3- The Loud Silence of Grief: Navigating Terminal Illness, Caretaking, and Estrangement
Q: So, if you're comfortable, where does your grief journey kind of start?
Emily describes starting in childhood when her father was diagnosed with liver cancer and the family faced a long, difficult journey that included caregiving, the secrecy around illness, and the emotional distance from adults who didn't know how to help. She emphasizes the lasting impact of those early experiences on her subsequent choices, boundaries, and coping in adulthood.
S2 E10- The Final Act of Love: Why Our Pets Deserve a Dignified Goodbye
Q: How did Magnum influence your work and this book?
Magnum's illness and passing motivated Kristen to create a children's book that makes saying goodbye gentler and more honest for families, with interactive elements and space for individual reflection.
