Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

23. The Rift Iceland, Pan-Mass Challenge Support and Post-Event FOMO
Q: What would you tell someone thinking about The Rift?
Stay in the start town Midgard if possible, bring very large tires with low pressure, pack CO2 and a pump, and consider a wingman plan or a staggered start to manage fatigue.
23. The Rift Iceland, Pan-Mass Challenge Support and Post-Event FOMO
Q: Oh yeah. How did you guys decide on this? How did you decide to do this?
Bob proposed it as an idea, then Jeff and others joined in; eventually the group expanded, and entries were secured, with some people transferring spots when plans changed.
22. How to Take Your Bike on a Plane
Q: How do you decide whether to bring your own bike or rent a bike at your destination?
If you're traveling to ride specific terrain or events and you want the feel and performance of your own setup, bringing your bike makes sense; for some travel scenarios where logistics and costs are high, renting a bike locally can be a convenient alternative, especially for road riding where rental bikes are readily available.
22. How to Take Your Bike on a Plane
Q: What are some things you should think about when you're traveling that you might plan to take but can't?
Consider aviation restrictions, weight limits, and what you can realistically carry in a bike bag vs. a box; plan ahead for CO2 cartridges and repair gear; factor in local availability for parts and supplies; and think about access to storage, transit, and local bike shops at the destination.
