  • Awesome!

I am currently in college working on my bachelors in kinesiology, then plan on pursuing the Masters of Athletic Training. This podcast helps me so much with improving my knowledge and understanding of exactly what I’m looking forward to when I become certified. Sadly I was still in community college when the change to a masters degree happened, but I’ve wanted to be an ATC since I was in 6th grade.

  • Great balance, great impact

Wonderful podcast using an engaging balance of education and stories! I love that they’ve also created a space on social media for ATs to share the ins and outs of the job, ask for advice, and just generally have a community in what can sometimes be a lonely profession.

  • Excellent!

With a 90 minute commute I’m always looking for great podcasts to pass the time. AT Corner has the best of both worlds - connecting the listener to other ATs with the story episodes and challenging your knowledge with the education episodes. As a current MSAT student I have loved hearing other ATs perspective as well as learning from a different voice. Sometimes it takes someone outside of your classroom to make something click in your brain! Thank you Sandra and Randy!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ATs in the OR with Hailey Rushton - 242
Q: Sandy: What advice do you have for athletic trainers who want to get into the ortho setting?
Her guidance is to be patient, ask lots of questions, seek hands-on opportunities or fellowships, build relationships with nurses and scrub techs, and actively pursue learning from physicians who are willing to teach.
ATs in the OR with Hailey Rushton - 242
Q: Randy: Could you explain a little more about how the one day became your reality and what got you into the ortho clinic setting?
Hailey shares that she started in traditional AT roles, moved into a clinic setting, and ultimately joined the OR path after opportunities arose and mentors encouraged growth, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning and mentorship.
Ankle Braces with Dr. Kay - 240
Q: Can you talk a little bit more about how you really made this idea come to life and what were the steps in that process of actually creating this brace?
The development was highly iterative, starting with the recognition that existing braces were uncomfortable and ill-fitting. We prototyped in collaboration with industrial design partners, experimented with elastomer materials, and designed a product that could wrap around the foot, with adjustable stirrups and living hinges to adapt to different anatomies. We tested fit and comfort across various foot shapes, and refined the mold-making and tooling to move from concept to production, prioritizing comfort and three-dimensional fit to ensure it would be worn consistently.
Imposter Syndrome: The Silent Struggle - 236
Q: What do we do about imposter syndrome?
You cope by recognizing it, using positive self-affirmations, sharing experiences with peers, and gradually accepting imperfection while improving your skills.
Sports Cardiology for Athletic Trainers with Sports Cardiologist Dr. Brian Becerra - 230
Q: What advice would you give the athletic trainer who is looking to add a cardiologist to their sports medicine team?
First, talk with your regular sports medicine doctors, as they will know cardiologists in the area. It's also helpful to Google sports cardiologists in your area, as it's a small but growing field.
