Reviews

4.7 out of 5 stars from 36 ratings
  • Needs more hard science episodes

They review too many articles that are soft science topics such as “social determinants of health” and “work life balance”. I want to see more podcasts on hard sciences that cover topics like injury prevention and rehabilitation. The JAT publishes them, this podcast ignores them.

JAT Chat | From Ankle Sprains to Hip Pain: How Youth Injuries Predict Later Trouble (Audio)
Q: What are the take-home points for practitioners working with youth athletes?
Practitioners should consider the whole kinetic chain when evaluating hip pain, ensure thorough injury histories, monitor long-term joint health, and optimize rehabilitation so that ankle and foot impairments are addressed to reduce future hip pain risk. Returning athletes should be evaluated with a holistic view of movement and function to support long-term joint health.
JAT Chat | From Ankle Sprains to Hip Pain: How Youth Injuries Predict Later Trouble (Audio)
Q: Can you tell us about the purpose of your study and the methods you took to measure outcomes of interest?
The study aimed to determine whether prior injuries at the knee and ankle/foot were associated with hip pain in adulthood, using an electronic survey of university students aged 18–24, with injury history and current pain/function measured via self-report scales. They excluded recent injuries to avoid confounding current pain with recent trauma.
JAT Chat | From Ankle Sprains to Hip Pain: How Youth Injuries Predict Later Trouble (Audio)
Q: Starting with a very broad question for our listeners, what is the landscape of evidence regarding hip pain and young adults? What do we know and what don't we know?
The discussion highlights that hip pain in youth and young adults is on the rise, likely due to increasing sports participation and specialization. There is evidence linking prior injuries, especially knee injuries, to later hip pain, but the connection is nuanced; the study found that ankle/foot injuries (with or without knee injuries) showed a stronger association with hip pain than knee injuries alone. The aim was to unpack how different prior injuries relate to current hip pain and function.
JAT Chat | Pregnancy and the Athlete: A Call to Action for Athletic Trainers
Q: What are some considerations and potential challenges of providing care to pregnant and postpartum patients?
Variability in pregnancy itself poses challenges, as each pregnancy is unique, needing individually tailored approaches to care.
JAT Chat | Pregnancy and the Athlete: A Call to Action for Athletic Trainers
Q: What is the role of athletic trainers in the care of pregnant and postpartum patients?
Athletic trainers play a crucial role by monitoring maternal and fetal health, facilitating communication within care teams, and modifying exercise programs safely during pregnancy.
