  • Host talks more than guest

Good podcast but would prefer less talking from the host so can hear more from the guest.

  • Never talk about cats

While there’s a lot of useful information on this podcast, it’s mostly geared toward dogs. Very little topics addressed Cats specifically which kind of makes me feel that they’re one of those “I’m a dog person” … there’s a lot of topics they address about how to deal with upset clients and things of that nature, but never addressed the fact that prices have skyrocketed and most veterinary clinics have a 300 to 500% mark up on products and services. They just perpetuate the victim blaming in a sy... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gut Check: Recognizing and Managing Acute Onset Pancreatitis.
Q: How is pain managed in severe cases, and what about outpatient options?
Severe cases use multimodal analgesia with opioids, plus adjuncts like fentanyl, ketamine, lidocaine; outpatient options may include buprenorphine or Tylenol/codeine, and in some cases a fentanyl patch is considered, with careful owner education and monitoring.
Gut Check: Recognizing and Managing Acute Onset Pancreatitis.
Q: What are the main diagnostic steps to confirm pancreatitis?
A combination of history, physical examination, CBC/chemistry, specific pancreatic lipase tests (SPEC CPL, SNAP CPL, Catalyst PL), and abdominal ultrasound to assess the pancreas and rule out mimics like foreign bodies or hepatobiliary disease.
Gut Check: Recognizing and Managing Acute Onset Pancreatitis.
Q: How does acute pancreatitis typically occur and present in dogs?
It presents across a spectrum with non-specific GI signs like vomiting, diarrhea, and letharg, and pain may be subtle or overt; risk factors include medications, concurrent diseases, and dietary changes, making history-taking and targeted testing essential.
Strengthening the Human-Animal Bond Through Communication, Trust and Technology
Q: What did Habri's Bond Factor/Habscore reveal about the pet-owner relationship?
The Bond Factor shows the bond is typically very strong, and higher bond strength correlates with fewer challenges, easier education, and greater openness to technology, suggesting that investing in education and communication strengthens the care relationship.
Canine Atopic Dermatitis: Cracking the Code in Diagnosis and Treatment
Q: Can you give us some tips on sussing out whether it's a seasonal flare versus condition worsening?
It's really challenging over the phone, and sometimes things get messy, so if they're not improving in a short period of time, they should be seen in clinic.
