As an owner, and not associated with any prior vet knowledge until my dog ended up with bilateral angular limb deformity, on his 5th surgery and now dealing with OA all before the age of 3 your podcast has helped me understand his disorder and different routes of treatment.

Hopefully we hear a future podcast of the gut microbiome in canines and the effects antibiotics play, fingers crossed!

  • Fantastic for ER vets and beyond

I've been listening to the VETgirl podcast since it's beginning and, as a criticalist and ER DVM, I love the practical, evidence-based, and short / digestable format. Justine is a fantastic host and always inserts her own experiences and perspective into the conversation to make it relatable for the listeners. Definitely a must-listen-to podcast for those who want an easier way to keep up with the literature!

Implementing a CT Scanner into General Practice with Dr. Ernie Ward | VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts
Q: How has CT changed diagnostic confidence and outcomes compared to radiographs or referrals?
CT provides three-dimensional detail that dramatically improves diagnostic confidence, reduces delays, and often alters treatment plans, especially for abdominal and joint issues where radiographs were inconclusive.
Implementing a CT Scanner into General Practice with Dr. Ernie Ward | VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts
Q: What sparked the idea of bringing CT into general practice, and what were some early challenges?
He shares the rural NC State MRI/CT project from two decades ago, private leasing, and how technology has evolved to portable, self-shielded units that fit in clinics with far fewer zoning hurdles.
Implementing a CT Scanner into General Practice with Dr. Ernie Ward | VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts
Q: Do you mind just giving us a little bit of background?
Dr. Ward describes his 35-year career, focus on promoting general practitioners and pet longevity, and his work with obesity and now advanced imaging. He frames CT as a natural extension of care and a tool to empower general practice.
One Life to Love with Dr. Sonya Gordon | VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts
Q: When should Pimobendan be started in asymptomatic dogs with MMVD?
Pimobendan should be considered when there is evidence that the heart is enlarging and the dog has a characteristic murmur, as delaying progression to symptomatic disease can significantly extend symptom-free life.
One Life to Love with Dr. Sonya Gordon | VETgirl Veterinary Continuing Education Podcasts
Q: What does practical confidence staging look like when echo isn't readily available?
Rely on basic, non-invasive indicators such as murmur presence, heart size on a single-view radiograph, and the loudness of the murmur to stratify B1 versus B2, while recognizing that these are imperfect but useful for guiding management and monitoring.
