  • Great content, terrible sound quality

I enjoy the podcast content and find it very clinically relevant, but the sound quality is so poor generally that I have to force myself to listen through the entire episodes. Please fix it.

  • Please don’t.

I am currently listening to your episode about spay/neutering. I was very disappointed to hear one of you talk negatively about intact male rottweilers. Please don’t say stuff like that when you have the platform you do.

I am a veterinarian and I own an intact male rottweiler. He has grown up in a loving environment and he is the most loving dog in the world. I purposely keep him intact in order to spread awareness to people in general and colleagues with your prejudice whom can’t see that the ... more

  • It’s tricky when sponsor overtakes content

I have to start by saying I have loved this podcast. I have always thought that I picked up really good tips and solid science but that has seem to be slipping… So your last podcast was the tip of vagueness and left me feeling completely uninspired. It went from a veterinary knowledge podcast to soft marketing for Hills I/d diets and absolutely nothing else other than constant repetition of how cats are hard to treat and food is tricky too. In the start Dr Little mentioned that treatment could o... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Veterinary Breakroom: New World Screwworm: Flesh-Eating Flies & the Drugs Fighting Back
Q: What should clinicians tell clients about the safety and regulatory status of these products?
Clinicians must inform clients that EUA products are not FDA-approved for screwworm, provide necessary risk/benefit information, and document the disclosure in the medical record and client communications.
Veterinary Breakroom: New World Screwworm: Flesh-Eating Flies & the Drugs Fighting Back
Q: What are the main pharmacologic tools currently available for dogs and cats, and how should they be used in areas with screwworm activity?
There are conditionally approved products for preventive and treatment use in dogs and cats, including certain isoxazoline-based products, as well as some EUAs like Night and Pyrim; these should be used according to labeled guidance and veterinarian oversight, with emphasis on prevention and controlled treatment under supervision.
Veterinary Breakroom: New World Screwworm: Flesh-Eating Flies & the Drugs Fighting Back
Q: Could you explain what an emergency use authorization means for a veterinary product and how it differs from full FDA approval?
An EUA allows the use of a drug during an emergency when it's not yet fully approved for that indication, with a reasonable likelihood of effectiveness and acceptable safety, and requires specific record-keeping and client communication about the experimental nature of the use.
Rethinking Osteoarthritis: Targeting Inflammation in Dogs With Dr. Tarantino
Q: What is one key takeaway for managing OA in practice?
Prescribe medications for an adequate trial period, ensure ongoing communication and re-checks, and integrate multimodal strategies to address inflammation, pain, and function over time.
Rethinking Osteoarthritis: Targeting Inflammation in Dogs With Dr. Tarantino
Q: What should owners expect after starting Galliprant or other OA medications?
Owners should expect a trial period of one to three months with monitoring for side effects like GI issues, and a realistic expectation that improvements will be incremental rather than a quick fix.
