  • Such good scoliosis info!!!

We have worked with Janessa, Dave, and Char at align therapy soon after my daughters scoliosis diagnosis. They have been kind and helpful in providing exercises to help her with her curve. She is still looking at a spinal fusion surgery because her curve is so advanced, however, I am so thankful for the wonderful resource and support align has had in helping her build confidence and empower her that scoliosis doesn’t define her, she is a warrior and can do hard things. Highly recommend this pod... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Live from the Clinic: Living with Scoliosis – Workshop Recording
Q: How long does it take to learn Schroth or PSSE exercises, and how often should people train?
Learning scoliosis-specific exercises typically takes about 12 visits over three months, with heavy emphasis on in-clinic instruction, cueing, and home practice; early on, frequent visits help establish correct cues, after which maintenance may be spaced out, potentially with ongoing support.
Live from the Clinic: Living with Scoliosis – Workshop Recording
Q: Is there a reversible type of scoliosis, or is progression always a concern?
Most scoliosis is not fully reversible, especially in adults, but pain and posture can improve with targeted exercises and correction strategies; progression can be slowed or halted with appropriate, ongoing care, and the goal is to manage symptoms and function rather than eliminate the curvature entirely.
Live from the Clinic: Living with Scoliosis – Workshop Recording
Q: Are there types of sports that you can do to help rein in progression?
Sports like swimming may not be ideal for progression because it can increase spinal rotation; weight-bearing activities and targeted posture/corrective exercises are emphasized to support the spine and bone density, with a focus on activities that train the body to maintain correction rather than relying on low-impact options alone.
Connecting the Brain and Scoliosis Body: Anna’s Journey Living Better with Scoliosis
Q: What was a turning point in understanding posture and movement for you?
The turning point came when she started working with a functional patterns practitioner and later a trainer who helped her reframe posture from a rigid stance to dynamic organization of the body, which enabled better rib-pelvis alignment, breathing, and movement.
Connecting the Brain and Scoliosis Body: Anna’s Journey Living Better with Scoliosis
Q: When was the first time you heard about scoliosis, and what was that like?
Anna recalls being diagnosed in her early teens by chiropractors in London, Ontario, and that she had likely shown signs for years prior, with her mother urging her to stand up straight. She emphasizes that there was little early imaging or conventional intervention offered, and she began coping with pain and compensations on her own.
