I have been following Suze since high school…so for over 30 years. She is practical and no-nonsense, and I appreciate that. I am now in school to be a CFP, and I thank Suze for her role in that.

I have a hard time learning anything from this podcast because I get so turned off by the cringy banter between the co-hosts. 🤢

  • Good info if you can get through the sarcasm

As a new listener I find the information provided valuable but I couldn’t stomach the insults and sarcastic comments that followed each question that was read off in a recent episode. If people are new they don’t know the advice that she’s been giving for decades. Even if they do, they’re asking for a reason. Comes across as a woman who is jaded in her career and ready to retire instead of coming from a place of genuine care.

Why on earth would Suze suggest we invest in this evil company??? While I appreciate her financial advice in general, I’m not sure how she and KT can feel ok recommending this.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You Have To Be Smarter Than This!
Q: Rebecca asks about inheriting retirement accounts and who should be named as beneficiaries for a new IRA in her mother's name.
Suze walks through beneficiary strategies, recommending each sibling open an inherited IRA in their own name, using per Stirpes designations to ensure shares pass to children if a sibling dies, and stressing the importance of meeting September 30 deadlines to avoid default rules that could increase taxes.
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You Have To Be Smarter Than This!
Q: Barb asks about when to take Social Security to maximize benefits, especially with an ex-spouse's higher benefit.
Suze explains the rules: you must have been married for at least 10 years, wait until at least two years post-divorce if remarriage hasn't occurred, and typically wait until full retirement age to maximize the potential share, with calculations showing the benefit level at different ages.
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You Have To Be Smarter Than This!
Q: Amber asks about moving a 59-year-old IRA to a Roth IRA and whether it's wise given potential future tax rates.
Suze urges looking at the big picture and argues that converting to a Roth can be advantageous over the long run, given many years for compounding tax-free, rather than focusing on current annual taxes.
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. You Have To Be Smarter Than This!
Q: Josh asks about gifting assets from his financially abused mother and what Suze would advise.
Suze emphasizes that simply transferring assets can be challenged legally and recommends involving a Louisiana family law attorney, exploring legal separation if necessary, and focusing on getting the mother to participate in her own rescue rather than taking ownership of assets yourself.
Am I Being Selfish For Not Helping A Deadbeat Relative?
Q: How should I handle a family member's financial request when I'm already stretched thin?
Explain your situation clearly, state your limits, and show love by prioritizing your own retirement and security while offering support in non-financial ways or helping them plan their own finances.
