Thank you! I have not really seen this topic covered, even though I’ve followed a number of women centered finance podcasts. Older singles defines me exactly and I’m always concerned if I’ve done enough to prepare for retirement. Keep it up!

  • Basic language

As much as I like the show, it drives me insane to hear an expert unable to pronounce English words correctly. It’s hard to trust someone’s advice who can’t pronounce- especially or ask or recognize correctly. The same goes for printed material that ignores capitalization, punctuation and correct grammar. We are losing touch with respect for the English language and the basics of communication.

I really enjoy Jean and all HER podcasts. I do not like the voice or topics of Jay Shelty. I definitely do not want to hear from Oprah.

A Week In Her Wallet: How One Woman Turned Divorce Debt Into a Bulletproof Budget, and a Savings Surplus
Q: How did the budgeting changes you tried during the week affect your overall spending habits?
Nicole explains that moving away from a cash envelope system to a debit-card-based system helped her manage everyday expenses more precisely. She now uses separate accounts for bills, entertainment, and groceries, and she aims to shift leftover money into savings, which strengthens her long-term savings strategy.
We Asked Real Women to Track Their Grocery Spending for a Week. Here's What Happened.
Q: What practical steps can listeners take to curb grocery spending without sacrificing quality?
Plan meals and make a shopping list, don't shop hungry, compare unit prices across stores, consider private-label products, and time your shopping to take advantage of sales and flyers.
"I'm 56 with $3M saved. My husband says we can't afford for me to retire early. Is he right?"
Q: Can Louise actually afford a plan to retire early given her savings, healthcare costs, and family obligations?
Louise has about 3.2 million in retirement accounts, plus stock grants and a substantial home equity cushion, but Jean emphasizes that the real test is whether spending can be supported under a range of scenarios, including health insurance costs and potential job changes; she recommends concrete planning with a financial advisor and Monte Carlo analyses to assess longevity risk and long-term care needs.
Ep 525: The Best Money Advice of All Time (According to the Experts)
Q: What motivated Kiplinger to curate a package around the best money advice of all time and how did you narrow it to 35 expert opinions?
The editors aimed to cut through information overload by selecting diverse, influential voices and distill practical, life-centered advice rather than just numbers, focusing on how guidance applies to real-life decisions and emotional aspects of money.
"I'm 68 and newly retired. Should I tap my $850K nest egg to renovate my bathrooms, or borrow instead?"
Q: When is the right time to look at purchasing that guaranteed income so that when you're ready to make the big decisions about things like, when are we going to take Social Security?
The host suggests considering guaranteed income to cover fixed expenses and using bucket approaches or annuities to balance risk, with a recommendation to sit down with a planner to model cash flow and determine the optimal timing for Social Security and withdrawals.
