Thank you! I have not really seen this topic covered, even though I’ve followed a number of women centered finance podcasts. Older singles defines me exactly and I’m always concerned if I’ve done enough to prepare for retirement. Keep it up!

  • Basic language

As much as I like the show, it drives me insane to hear an expert unable to pronounce English words correctly. It’s hard to trust someone’s advice who can’t pronounce- especially or ask or recognize correctly. The same goes for printed material that ignores capitalization, punctuation and correct grammar. We are losing touch with respect for the English language and the basics of communication.

  • Do not like your subs

I really enjoy Jean and all HER podcasts. I do not like the voice or topics of Jay Shelty. I definitely do not want to hear from Oprah.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 532: The Truth About Annuities: Busting Myths and Answering Your Biggest Questions
Q: Why do men sometimes receive higher payouts than women in annuities?
Differences in payouts arise from mortality assumptions; because women live longer on average, pricing must reflect longevity risk, which can favor women in some cases but is intended to reflect fair pricing across populations.
Ep 532: The Truth About Annuities: Busting Myths and Answering Your Biggest Questions
Q: What is the simplest way to think about choosing an annuity—income now or later?
If you want income sooner, you can opt for an income annuity; if you prefer to fund retirement savings first and convert later, a living-benefit or deferred annuity might fit, always aligning with your goals and planning horizon.
Ep 532: The Truth About Annuities: Busting Myths and Answering Your Biggest Questions
Q: Is it too late to buy an annuity if I want to retire in five years?
Five to ten years before retirement is often an advantageous window because it allows the money to grow and you can choose products with bonuses for waiting, especially if you plan to use a living benefit.
"I'm 62 with $1M saved. Should my husband and I get a divorce to protect our retirement?"
Q: Should they get a divorce on paper to protect themselves financially?
No, the expert and host advise against Medicaid divorce as a strategy because it can backfire, consider alternatives like trusts, and the house generally remains protected if one spouse lives there; professional elder-law guidance is essential.
The Economic Freeze: What's Really Happening With Jobs, Housing, and Your Paycheck
Q: What should someone do about mortgage decisions in this environment?
Don't base decisions on forecasts; instead, review your own budget and be prepared for rate volatility, possibly considering price-sensitive actions like delaying a purchase until it fits your budget rather than chasing uncertain forecasts.
