Re-Mission: Nutrition, Metabolic Health, and Real Recovery, with Jen Nolan
Q: What are the current diet trends you see among cancer patients, and how do you approach them?
Patients often experiment with raw or vegan approaches, but we focus on practical integration—adding accessible animal proteins like fish or eggs when needed, using balanced, lower-carbohydrate patterns, and tailoring the plan to the individual's situation while emphasizing gut-friendly, anti-cancer nutrients from colorful vegetables.
A Closer Look at Melatonin with Dr. Stacy Dunn
Q: Does high-dose melatonin affect the body's own melatonin production or other hormones?
According to expert discussion, exogenous high-dose melatonin does not suppress endogenous production or alter other hormones, indicating a safety margin that allows its use in cancer care without metabolic disruption.
A Closer Look at Melatonin with Dr. Stacy Dunn
Q: What is the controversy surrounding melatonin and heart health that you've seen in patients?
The concern stems from a press release suggesting an increased risk of congestive heart failure with long-term melatonin use, but the data are not peer-reviewed, lack clear dosing information, and don't convincingly show causation, especially given melatonin's protective roles in cardiovascular contexts.
Welcoming Cynthia Aks, DO to Riordan Clinic
Q: So, you're coming on to the Riordan Clinic team, and we're excited to have you. I'm sure our listeners are kind of interested in what your background is and why you were even interested in coming to Riordan Clinic.
Cynthia explains her medical journey, emphasizing a mind-body approach, oncology experience, and a passion for patient-centered care that aligns with Riordan Clinic's integrative model.
Welcoming Cynthia Aks, DO to Riordan Clinic
Q: Aks. And so, Dr. Aks, or can I call you Cynthia?
Cynthia responds affirmatively, acknowledging the informal, collaborative approach and setting the tone for an open, two-way discussion about her role and the clinic's mission.
