I lost both of my parents relatively young to addiction. My mom passed when I was 16, my dad when I was 32. I’m 36 now.
The AA meetings, the 12 steps, the shame, the forced dialogue around calling yourself powerless, the attempt to make sense of it being called a disease, the insistence in labeling yourself an “alcoholic” etc etc etc- it never quite resonated with what I had witnessed.
This podcast brought me the small piece of validation I unknowingly needed for the past 25 years. I’m deepl... more
You guys reminded me that I can do things on my own. And that I’m not doomed for life. I tried AA for a year and knew in my gut what they were telling me wasn’t right. I found this show I. YouTube searching about how AA is a cult because I felt like I was in a cult. So sad that so many people get stuck in an AA prison that is about as bad as being addicted to drugs or alcohol.
It’s good to hear opposition to the antiquated 12-Step Program, but you don’t need The Freedom Model. You are in control. Most people age out of addiction. Make a decision to change your relationship with substances right now. Stop doing everything entirely or practice moderation. Good luck. 😎
This podcast validates everything I knew in my gut about AA and the rest of the 12-step fellowships. If you are someone contemplating change you need to know there are alternatives to the fellowships.
Im struggling to trust you all when you’re marketing the book, the workshops so much. It sounds like a pyramid scheme pitch. You say things that tug at peoples pain and desire to leave support groups and then youll simply say youre program works, but dont go into details except to ask people to purchase it…thats so messed up man!
