  • Great resource for concerned families

I send episodes to my elderly grandparents - in particular the interview with the Tulsa PD detective describing recent trends in scams. He covered so many and explained them in a way non-technically savvy people can understand.

elderly folks love to send around articles and videos to family and friends, so I find sending them Scammer Stories episodes - saying “here’s the latest trends in scams, they keep getting craftier, keep an eye out” - is well received and taken seriously.

  • Excellent resource

I’m so thankful for this podcast. This is the first meaningful support I have found. I am a family member of a victim and the stress has been overwhelming. After listening to other stories, I do not feel like I am crazy for establishing boundaries. I want to help as an advocate for victims and families in the future. Right now, I’m prayerfully taking it one day at a time.

What happens when nothing works while trying to save a parent from a romance scam
Q: The one question I always get, I hate getting this question because I don't have an answer for it because it's just so different for everybody, but if someone says, how do I get my loved one to stop?
A practical approach is to guide them toward the solution themselves with calm, inquisitive questions rather than blunt judgment, involve a trusted third party, and establish concrete safeguards like a trustee and account alerts to create a path to stopping the behavior without triggering defensiveness.
Package to a romance scammer tips off federal investigators, leading to one woman's heartbreak
Q: Describe how the realization of the scam unfolded for you and what it felt like when you first suspected something wasn't right.
The realization came after repeated large money transfers and increasingly implausible stories, followed by the moment of fear and paralysis during a call where I was confronted with the possibility that I'd been manipulated, which forced me to reassess everything I believed about the relationship and to seek help from family and authorities.
