Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When To Get Your Hormone Levels Checked | The Performance Medicine Show #195
Q: What age do you recommend getting testosterone levels checked?
Testosterone testing is advised if symptoms are present, but baseline testing is reasonable in mid-to-late 20s for asymptomatic individuals; use a comprehensive panel (free and total testosterone with binding globulin) and test before 10 a.m., with spot checks every two to three years if asymptomatic.
Top Supplements To Help Prevent Alzheimer's and Dementia | The Performance Medicine Show #196
Q: What are supplements to help with Alzheimer's Dementia prevention if prevention is possible?
Lithium orotate, methylene blue, and higher doses of creatine are highlighted as a triad for dementia prevention, complemented by lifestyle measures like exercise, sleep optimization, and potentially a ketogenic approach depending on insulin sensitivity. The speaker also notes genetic considerations (APOE testing) and the value of methylated B vitamins in related contexts.
What To Do About MTHFR | The Performance Medicine Show #194
Q: Tammy asks if hormone therapy can be an option for a patient whose mother had estrogen-induced cancer.
The guest explains that bioidentical estradiol does not inherently cause breast cancer and that risks depend on factors like receptor status; decisions should be individualized with a thorough discussion and screening, including mammograms and consideration of uterus status.
The Signs Of A Low Thyroid | The Performance Medicine Show #192
Q: Is a TSH of 4.87 enough to consider thyroid medication?
Lab values are important, but clinical symptoms and a full thyroid workup (including free T3, free T4, reverse T3, and antibodies) guide treatment decisions; if symptoms align with hypothyroidism, treatment is reasonable.
Dealing With Memory Problems? | The Performance Medicine Show #190
Q: What is your approach to telemedicine rules for out-of-state patients and in-person visits?
The host explains that telemedicine eligibility depends on state licensing, with annual in-person visits often required and state boards controlling practice rules rather than insurers.
