In this episode of Being Bookish, I’m digging into the layers of Dire Bound, the atmospheric 2025 debut by Sable Sorensen.

While there is plenty of talk online about the relationships in this book (and I have my thoughts on its categorisation), I’m ... more

In this episode, I’m looking at a locked-room mystery with subtle digs at the publishing world in the debut by an author who remained a mystery for 6 months following the well-marketed announcement, The Ending Writes Itself by Evelyn Clarke.

This week, I've been reading a lot of fantasy, and my episode is going to lean into that as I'm reviewing a story that takes a really clever approach to the fantasy genre. I’m talking about This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews, a novel with... more

Described as The Day of the Triffids crossed with Little Shop of Horrors, this week, I’m looking at a story that certainly presents an unusual scenario. I’m talking about Overgrowth by Mira Grant, a book with a botanical horror premise that's hard to... more

  • Spoiler-free heaven

Somehow Raye manages to dive into the pages without spoiling anything for the reader. Recommending this podcast to anyone looking to pick up a new book but wants a taste of the story before they grab their copy!

  • Love this

I love this podcast. I am an avid reader myself and have been picky about the genre of books I read. Raye has encouraged me to broaden that and read books I wouldn’t have ever read, like Lia Louis, Jill Mansell and Paige Toon to name a few. We also read a lot of the same books and it nice to hear about them again and see them from a different perspective

  • A podcast that is wonderfully easy to listen to with a host who obviously enjoys telling you about books (and movies) WITHOUT SPOILING THE ENDING!! Give it a listen!

  • A portable book club!

I’ll take all the help I can get navigating the avalanche of content when it comes to reading. Rate is an articulate guide through the books (and movies!) she covers on her show, and you’re bound to discover a new favorite, or be inspired to revisit an old one, if you listen long enough.

  • Not Before Coffee is a fantastic listen! From The Reading Room, where she talks about books she reading and that she loves (the episode on Good Omens is a personal favorite), to reviews of movies and television that strikes her fancy (earlier episodes focused on Disney Channel original movies and DVDs on her shelf, if memory serves), Raye weaves it all together something special with talks about dreams and depression, but not before she's had her coffee.
