  • Ads on the recommendations section now?!

Love this podcast, listen to it every week, but already people have mentioned just how many ads there are in a 30 minute episode….and now they’ve added ads into the recommendations section as well?! Surely the podcast makes enough money already that they don’t need to be trying to sell you something for 50% of the listening time… Especially when Marina and Richard have on several occasions pointed out with weariness how much all content is dominated by ads these days….ironic much?

  • Wish there were time stamps

Some good stuff and also not always an easy listen. Richard tends to repeat himself. Just when it seems as though he may be making a new point, he repeats the first. Marina alternates between clarity and swallowing words. Cancelled subscription, now casual listener and still, wish there were time stamps

  • Pretty good but if you want elite gossip examination….

I mostly enjoy this, esp when they talk about things they really know about, like tv and film production BUT if you want expert analysis of the latest celeb dramas I highly recommend who weekly podcast. That one is so funny and in depth, takes a few listens to get into but it’s my absolute favourite.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Not To Become A Meme
Q: A question for you, Marina, from Emily Cooper about how actors should react when memed on the Internet.
Marina suggests actors should lean into memes and engage with the moment, unless the meme is genuinely problematic, in which case a more cautious, measured response is appropriate.
Our Most WTF Celebrity Couples
Q: How does ghostwriting work in big book-to-film deals when a celebrity is involved, like Millie Bobby Brown?
Ghostwriting has long been a practice; the guest explains that payments are typically structured as upfront fees or contributor arrangements, and film rights are usually negotiated as part of a package, with public acknowledgment sometimes influencing later opportunities.
Our Most WTF Celebrity Couples
Q: Could the House of Commons up the production value of their select committees with better cameras and mics?
The hosts explain why parliamentary broadcasts are highly regulated to maintain impartiality, with limited opportunities for close-ups or dramatic cuts, which keeps the record precise and non-sensational.
Hitler vs Hitchcock
Q: What is the hosts' view on open letters and celebrity involvement in politics or industry issues?
They argue open letters are often performative, can cause division, and rarely achieve meaningful change, favoring more direct or concise actions and pointing to historical examples where targeted, short campaigns had more impact.
Hitler vs Hitchcock
Q: How does a licensing deal for a song like Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand work over many years in advertising?
They explain that upfront sync deals can yield ongoing royalties as long as the ads run, with renewals and renegotiations over time; the song's continued use on Jet2 campaigns and social media creates enduring value and halo effects for the artist beyond initial licensing.
