  • Very good, but some issues

    The good:

    - Many great under the radar recs from one host that I have gone on to read and enjoyed

    - Honest and fair reviews

    - A lengthy back catalogue (I’m in 2023 now)

    - No ads apart from their monthly patreon ad

    - Very consistent in schedule, format, and general vibe

    The issues:

    - The recent push to use AI for things Google can do is extremely irresponsible and I’m sure these hosts know that

    - I don’t care about children’s and middle grade lit 😂 (I just skip through those recs)

    - I only lik... more

  • Disappointed in the push for AI

The most recent episode, 26 August 2025, is a HUGE disappointment with the push to use generative AI to “improve reading life”. In reality what the episode described was using generative AI to do something a librarian, book seller, or even a book influencer can do with no acknowledgment to the damage AI does to the environment or jobs it takes. Also no acknowledgment that AI is trained using the work of real authors and artists without their permission.

  • The best

This is my favorite book podcast. I really like both regular hosts. I especially appreciate the transcript which allows me to zip right to what I most want to hear about. And the lack of commercials is heaven! I joined their Patreon to help support this work.

  • The Best

The best book podcast out there. The hosts are intelligent, well spoken, and very well read. They give thoughtful reviews. Best of all, the books that are recommended are not the same regurgitated & overhyped books you hear about all over the place. It’s refreshing! I’m reading so many new authors and genres thanks to this podcast and using my library more than ever. The amount of extra content offered in the patreon community is insane.
