  • DNF Queen

I’ve listened to this podcast for a long time and was a Patreon for a while as well. I used to really love the author interviews but it seems as though she’s cut way back on those per a Patreon survey saying people didn’t like those episodes? While I like the format of the show the host is not very well read, DNF’s so many books (once saying she DNF’d a book after 2 pages lol), has a very small wheelhouse, and just seems so clueless. So many of the same books are talked about over and over and o... more

  • Great overall book podcast

Truly this podcast is the best I’ve ever listened too. The varying reading tastes of all three hosts is a perfect mix for a wide variety of readers. I enjoy all of the extras that Patreon members receive. But if you’re just a non-paying member you also get a wealth of recommendations. I can’t say enough good things about this podcast and what it’s done for my reading life.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 193: Clare Leslie Hall (Author of Broken Country) + Book Recommendations
Q: What was so hard about writing this book that caused you to give it up a few times?
It was difficult because I felt stymied by the tag of crime author, even though it was never a true reflection of who I am as a writer.
Ep. 193: Clare Leslie Hall (Author of Broken Country) + Book Recommendations
Q: Can you give us a brief overview of Broken Country without spoiling anything?
Sure. It's about a passionate love triangle in a small Dorset village during the 1950s and 60s, ending with a big murder trial in London.
Ep. 189: Karen Thompson Walker (Author of The Strange Case of Jane O.) + Book Recommendations
Q: What do you think connects your three books?
All three explore how extraordinary circumstances can illuminate ordinary human experiences through speculative or fantastical elements.
Ep. 189: Karen Thompson Walker (Author of The Strange Case of Jane O.) + Book Recommendations
Q: How did you go about figuring out how that slowing would impact life on Earth and do all of that research?
The research was intuitive and curiosity-driven, asking specific questions about the effects of the slowing Earth and tracking down the answers rather than conducting massive research up front.
Ep. 189: Karen Thompson Walker (Author of The Strange Case of Jane O.) + Book Recommendations
Q: What was your inspiration for The Age of Miracles?
The inspiration came from a class on fantastical fiction and a real-life earthquake that momentarily affected the rotation of the Earth, leading to a story about what would happen if the Earth slowed down significantly.
