  • So cute

Ok so honestly such a good podcast, I would say more diversity so like diffrent types of books would be better or doing like little games to warm them up would be fun! Some people are saying that you should do “not just YA novels” but I find that if that’s what you want to read then that’s the books you like. And if people don’t like those types of books find a diffrent podcast and don’t leave a bad review I will say she doesn’t actually read YA it’s always “general content” so like 18+ but I do... more

  • Absolutely love this podcast!

I’ve always found podcasts very boring and I never ever listened to them - until I found Off The Shelf! It is the perfect podcast to listen to when I go on walks. It brings me so much joy and comfort, and it feels like I’m hanging out with friends talking about everything in the book world. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#54: How the Lucky Adaptation Came to Life with Marissa Stapley
Q: What was the first moment of inspiration you got for this story overall?
The initial inspiration came from a radio morning show discussion about a huge lottery payout and the question of why the winner hadn't claimed it yet, which sparked a concept of someone with a crime history who couldn't come forward, and I realized this could be a compelling plot without revealing a con artist as the sole focus.
#53: How Pride and Prejudice Inspired 'Behind Five Willows' With June Hur
Q: What was the impact of the COVID-19 era on your book launches and readership?
Hur notes there were no in-person book tours for the debut during COVID, but later releases benefited from in-person launches and sustained engagement, with social media and bookstores playing key roles.
#53: How Pride and Prejudice Inspired 'Behind Five Willows' With June Hur
Q: How did Pride & Prejudice influence Behind Five Willows, and what challenged you about merging those worlds?
She originally pitched it as Pride & Prejudice with murder; the editor encouraged adding romance, which Hur embraced as a growth opportunity, balancing the murder mystery with romance to honor both influences.
#53: How Pride and Prejudice Inspired 'Behind Five Willows' With June Hur
Q: What led you to shift from traditional British historicals to your Korean historical fiction?
After many rejections with British historicals, Hur found the field constraining and discovered a personal passion for Korean history, which offered fresh storytelling possibilities and representation she wanted to see.
#52: Elle Kennedy Reveals Which Off Campus Character She Almost Killed Off
Q: How did writing The Deal evolve from a side project to a published novel?
Kennedy explains she initially wrote The Deal for fun and considered it a standalone, but reader reactions and editor encouragement pushed her to expand it, eventually leading to self-publishing before it found traditional publishing support.
