  • One of the very best interviewers on the planet!

His soft spoken and gentle manner belies an ability to cut deep. He made Josh Brolin cry and David Mamet storm off in an inarticulate rage. His preparation is phenomenal. He is truly an exceptional interviewer and human being.

  • A new favorite

Sam asks insightful questions with respect that the guests clearly appreciate. His voice is a pleasure to listen to. As soon as I finish an episode, I’m already looking forward to the next one. (I’m a Fresh Air listener who was introduced to the show through the wonderful interview with Terry Gross.)

Q: What do you want from now on, after this film?
From now on, I would love for that to continue, to have that kind of collaborations and to get to do these kinds of movies and then also keep my very simple life.

Q: When you got the script for Sentimental Value, how did you understand the difference between Julie and Nora?
I knew about her because Joachim had talked about her, that she was carrying a lot more emotional weight, and that she was more mature, and that she had a lot of unprocessed things from growing up in a really troubled home.
Cook Alison Roman Creates ‘Something from Nothing’
Q: What do you hope for in the next few years?
I hope to continue to be lucky enough to make a living off of effectively just being myself and teaching how to cook.
